Missing "Share" Setting

Hello,

I updated my Acrobat to the latest version at the same time as my colleagues, however it seems that my Acrobat does not have the same features. I have uninstalled, restarted my PC, re-installed, restarted my PC several times - the version I am using is 25.001.20435.0

As you can see from the below screenshot, I do not have the "Share" button or "AI Assistant" in the main menu bar. I also don't have the option to "send for comments" unless I send through a server or as an attachment via email. I really need the ability to create a shareable link to send to my clients and colleagues for commenting. Please advise.

Hi @Madison36383658p1ly ,

Based on your screenshots alone, I don't think there is an issue. You appear to be using the New Acrbat Experience User Interface (UI) .

In that mode, a few things are less intuitive for some users due to the way some of the classic features were rearranged for the New Acrobat Experrience. In whicch case, the Share button won't be visible unless you open a document. However, it must be enabled manually (assuming that you haven't done so already).

Another non-intuitive scenario is when you click on Menu = > scroll down the list  and you should see "Share file" (just below "Request E-signatures"). If it is greyed out is because is not enabled. In this particular case,   it will become enabled in this menu option when a PDF file is opened.

Nevertheless, if you've already enabled the Share button (following the steps recommended below), be aware that the Share button is also not visible when you're browsing for PDF files that appear listed in the "Recent" view. That is, unless you select a file and the Right Hand Pane in that "Recent" workspace will open up, giving you the option to Share file (this is done manually, and the sharing action won't execute unless you click on the provided icon). The same is true for the Acrobat Classic UI.

For instance, in the "Recent" view, when you hover the Mouse Pointer over a listed file name, the Share option will become  visible on the far right of the row (not on top in the Quick Tools Menu as a blue Share button).

To be certain, let's switch the UI to the Classic Acrobat UI:.

  • To do so, go to Menu => and select "Disable New Acrobat => Select Restart => Acrobat will then restart and will be launched in Classic UI.
  • Once Acrobat is launched in the Classic UI, see the top Menu Bar (the Main Toolbar, just below the Title Bar) => click on View => and select from the context menu "Toolbar Items => and from the next context manu select "Show Share Button Label"

You should be able to see the Share button now when you are working with your PDFs in both Acrobat Classic and the New Experience

Hi @ls_rbls

Anytime I click on the "Share File" in the main menu, it directs me to "Send by email".

I followed your directions to switch the UI and I still don't see a share button.

Hi @Madison36383658p1ly ,

My apologies, I skipped a menu item in my prior instructions and I forgot to specify  after you click on "View" select "Show/Hide" =>> then "Toolbar Items".

Hi,

Since you're on Windows, try to repairing the installation from the help menu.

You can also try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-defau...

Finally, try creating a new test user profile with full admin rights.

Hi mj,

Thanks for your input,

I have tried to repair the installation as you suggested a few times now, and the problem persists.

I followed the directions for resetting the Acrobat preferences and it doesn't look like it changed anything either.

I signed into my personal Adobe account and it looks like I do have the AI Assistant, but I only have the "share" option intermittently. Some files have the "share" option, where others don't. I know the problem isn't the file, because my coworker was able to create a shared link from the exact same PDF,

SOS!

Hi @Madison36383658p1ly - Madison!

Sorry for the troubling experience, and thank you for reaching out.

Before I suggest anything, please let me know if this is your personal or Work machine. Is it being managed by IT?

Alternatively, this could happen if you are using a Classic version of Acrobat, which doesn't support online services.
