My zip files are being saved as pdfs and I can't stop it

New Here ,

I recently downloaded adobe acrobat reader for a project I was working on. I hadn't used it much since. But I was downloading some files and accidentally clicked "open with adobe acrobat reader" on one and now every zip file (I have yet to try it with others) saves as a pdf with the adobe logo on it. I've tried everything I've found online but they didn't work and it also seems that they were also for a different problem than mine. Gonna keep trying though.

Just do the reverse.. select one of the files with a zip/7z extension and select Properties > Opens with: Change ... there you set the app of your choice for decompressing archives going forward.

Hi @SR05,

Hope you are doing well. Sorry for the delayed response.

If you are still looking for a solution, as shared earlier, this seems to be an issue with the zip file being applied as a PDF file.

You can try the steps as mentioned below:

For Windows: right-click the file > properties > click the "change" button to the right of Open With > change to your zip extractor > Apply > OK.

For Mac: Control-click on the file > Get info > Under the section "Opens with", change the app from the dropdown > close.

This should fix the issue.

Let us know if it helps.

Regards,
Souvik.
