Opening PDFs without Layers displayled

When I open any PDF file, the default display mode shows all the layers open on the left side taking up 3/4 of the screen, and the page itself is reduced on the right side. (screenshot of this is attached). I've saved the files in the normal display mode but when ther are re-opened, the layers take up most of the screen again. I have to click the X to close the layers panel every time. Is there a way to re-set the opening display default on all files to just show the page itself with none of the layers view on?

Right click on right side panel and click 'Reset side panels'.

This will shrink side panel along with the layers subpanel when opening Reader.

Your PDFs may have the initial view properties set to show the layers panel, I don't think you can override this in your Acrobat preferences, but you can reset the initial view settings in the PDF (File> Properties> Initial View> Navigation tab).

You can also use a preflight profile to change the initial view settings, as explained in this related discussion:

Thanks. You were right that they are set to "Layers and Page" under Initial View. I can change it to "Page Only" and that works on each file if I need to re-open it, but its more time consuming to open File> Properties> Initial View> Navigation tab and change the setting every time than it is to just click the layers tab closed. We receive hundreds of PDFs a day and new ones replace those the next day with the same issue. I've asked the person creating the PDFs whether they are exporting, plotting or printing from AutoCAD and if theres a way for them to change the plot setting so the layers are compressed. My other team members say they are not having the same issue opeing files. So far I am unable to re-set the default on my PDF preferences and our IT department was unable to find a solution either. If you think of any other fixes, please let me know!

I suspect your other team members are not using Acrobat to view the PDFs.

The link to the other discussion explains how to reset the initial view setting on a folder of PDFs (with one or two clicks).

Another option is to save the PDF as an optimized PDF, where you have the option to flatten (remove) the layers, although this cannot be undone.

File> Save as other> Optimized PDF.
