I was just upgraded to Acrobat Pro DC. I now get the following error message on some of my documents: "Please wait while document is prepared for reading." For a large document it takes an agonizingly long time to read all the pages. And the message comes back every time I open it.
I tried to get help from chat tech support last night. They told me I could go back to the last version of Acrobat Pro. That is a sad reflection on the company.
I really don't like anything about DC but I know that most problems will be fixed in due time with updates.
Thanks for any help,
Todd Daniel
Hi Todd,
Please try the step mentioned in the KB: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/message-content-preparation-progress-opening.html

Works for Windows, too.
It's kind of a bummer that the real solution is hidden under another topic, and that Adobe won't admit that it silently changes settings that have been in place and working correctly for years. I never enabled assistive technology support--Adobe did, on the last update.
I also think it's not a good idea to irritate your customers, but maybe Adobe wants to, so that they can stop supporting PDFs entirely. They're certainly not about bringing CC Acrobat Pro DC into the 21st Century--it's still a 32-bit application, for heaven's sake.

Bang on Scott, thanks for curing my headache. I'm on MacBook Pro marking up plan drawings for emergency vehicles access so this fix was great and urgent.

Same problem on Mac and none of the options above are working. As MikeGondek noted, the option recommended by Adobe does not appear on the Mac version.

Ok, yes that seemed to help me also. But, I'd like to know what the purpose of the option is and what am I dismissing...besides a headache that is.

Why, oh why, did it take so long to get the answer to these questions.
And what is the answer to the question asked by cjjatlanta1?
Is this a feature? Or a bug??

Encountered this problem for the first time today. Thank you for the solution. Unchecking Enable Assistive Technology Support worked perfectly.
