It's been a good 20 years, but if I have to pay for something like rotate, then it's time to uninstall used Windows 10 default pdf viewer.

Never was. Been using for decades. You must have had a paid-for copy of Acrobat. Perhaps came with a computer or scanner. And now you lost it... but of course that's Adobe's fault.

The free Reader could only rotate the view, not the actual pages. This has always been like that and hasn't changed recently.

This is correct, rotate page has never been a free feature. This has always been a part of paid feature Organize Pages.

With freeware, you can only rotate the page view using Acrobat Reader DC desktop app.

Rotate DOCUMENT may never have been free, but you could rotate the view to see if you even want it. You can no longer rote the view for free? wow...

I don't know where you get that idea. Is your question, then, HOW do I rotate the view in the free Acrobat Reader DC?

View - Rotate View - Clockwise or Counter-clockwise.

OK! THERE in was my issue! thank you 🙂 for me, anyway. It USED to be that the clockwise pointing circle at the top of the page (or bottom in some cases) would rotate the VIEW... (no, the document itself wasn't rotated). NOW you must go into view and rotate view... an extra step, but at least i can do it instead of twisting my neck, lol! (PS - where i got what idea? )

"then it's time to uninstall used Windows 10 default pdf viewer."
You cannot.
In Windows 10 the default PDF viewer is MS Edge, not Acrobat Reader.

The responses have not been accurate saying that rotating pages was never a thing without a paid subscription. It alway has been possible inside an open document. Now it is not. Last week I used this and rotated documents. This week it won't rotate without my signing up for a "free" 7 day trial. Anyone care to guess what my next approach to .pdf management is going to be?

So, Alex, do you mean you go to the View menu (top bar) - choose Rotate View - and it asks for a subscription then?

Did you read the discussion above? We specified how it can still be done in Reader for free, like before.
If it's not working for you, please detail the exact steps you're taking and what the results are.

Yes, I read the dicusssion, but Alex is right. Before I was also able to rotate AND SAVE documents with the FREE version and now I'm not. When I click the rotate icon on the menu at the top of the page a winodow pops up requesting to sign in for the trial. Fortunately there are many free tools that still support PDF page rotation (and more). I will keep the Reader for a while while I test other tools, but I'm switching my PDF default handler.

Use the View menu.

Again, this was never possible with the free Reader. You could not rotate the pages with it.
You could only rotate the view, and if you had the option to restore the last view settings enabled then they would appear like that the next time you opened the file, but you couldn't actually rotate them.

that's exactly what I got, is there an answer on this 7-day trial yet?

I have been rotating landscape documents for viewing purposes for years in the FREE adobe reader.
But recently with the new upgrades have to pay to view a document so i don't have to tilt my head??????
This is just a money making grab.
So will just not use the program anymore as not paying just to upgrade so i can view a landscape document the right way round. as only want to view not change & save!!!!
very annoyed with adobe changing this may even cancel the functions i do pay for and go with a different company all together.

I came here for the same reason. I think they changed what the circular arrow icon goes to. you have to use the view menu now. This will cause a lot of problems for them. I will be switching to another reader as well. unforced error

I have an employee who has the paid version installed, which is Acrobat DC (64-bit) 21.011.20039. She is getting the same as the posters above. She said she just started getting the message for the Free 7-Day Trial. I went into View menu and clicked on both the left and right rotation tools and they showed up on her menu. When I click on the left or the right rotate tool, they provide the correct rotation. My question is how can I get rid of the extra rotation icon that will not disappear, and if accidentally clicked will show the annoying free 7-Day Trial box? I really don't want to resort to removing and re-installing the software again. I have uploaded a screenshot of what I'm seeing. The tool on the far right is the one I want to remove.
Thank you for your help,

I have the same issue as the two posters above:
I have an employee with a paid subscription for Adobe Acrobat DC (64-bit) 21.011.20039 and when she clicks on the rotation tool on her ribbon it displays the Free 7-Day trial AD, and she wants it removed. I cannot figure out how to delete it. I clicked on View and the Page Rotation menu and added the left and right tools, and they show on the toolbar properly and work the way they should, but the other one just won't disappear. I want to remove it and can't see a way to do it. Any ideas how to remove the AD permanently? I really don't want to un-install and re-install the program either.
I'm attaching a screen shot of the toolbar. The rotation ad tool is on the far right.
Thank you,

How many people wont realise they've moved the feature button and just pay the money to get the feature back. People will panic, sign up and then they've got constant revenue for a feature that was already there. Good morals and tactics there Adobe. Well Done!

Literally came here for the exact same issue and this thread resolved it. You were definitely able to rotate view by right clicking. You still can, but we need to click "rotate view clockwise," which is now further down the options versus clicking the circular arrow.

Leo,
You could just use Control, Shift, + on your keyboard to rotate the view clockwise or Control, Shift, - for counter-clockwise. I actually found the keyboard strokes to be faster and having to click on the toolbar. Or you can just add the tools you need to your toolbar and you are done. I still don't have an answer for a way to remove the ad laden tool.
