Scrolling the page with the mouse wheel is too fast when use Adobe Acrobat on Mac OS

When using Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Acrobat Reader on Mac OS, scrolling the page with the mouse wheel is too fast, and a light scrolling will scroll 2-3 pages, but the same mouse can scroll the page very slowly on Adobe Acrobat on Windows 11, even if I scroll the mouse wheel quickly (The settings in mouse App logi option+ and Windows 11 are both default). I want to ask if Acrobat on Mac OS is not perfectly adapted to the mouse like on Windows11? (Because other PDF Software on Mac OS like PDF expert doesn't have above problem yet.) Too fast page scrolling speed will cause users to be unable to read the PDF file carefully and need to scroll the mouse wheel very carefully to avoid the page moving too fast, this rolling reading experience is very annoying . The mouse involved in the above issue is Logitech's Master3, and adjusting the scroll speed of the scroll wheel in the system settings of the mac and Logitech's software "logi option+" can't change the above situation of too fast scrolling in the Acrobat. But the problem does not exist when working with the trackpad of the Macbook or Magic trackpad of Mac mini. So is the issue of scrolling too fast mentioned above a bug in the Mac version of Acrobat? Is this an issue with a particular PDF file or with all the PDFs, please try with a different file and check.

Also, open the Acrobat application > Go to View tab > Page Display > Enable scrolling and see if that works. 

Make sure you have the application updated to the recent version 23.03.20269 go to Help > check for updates and reboot the computer once.

This is not a problem with a single PDF file, it is a problem with Acrobat software. As long as you use the mouse wheel in the Mac version of Acrobat, the page scrolling speed is particularly fast, which is in stark contrast to Acrobat's Windows 11 version. In Acrobat on Windows 11, even if I quickly scroll the mouse, the scrolling speed of PDF pages is relatively slow, with small segments scrolling down, instead of scrolling down multiple pages with just one scroll in Mac version Acrobat. The former allows me to not pay careful attention to the scrolling speed of the scroll wheel, which is suitable for reading, but the latter always makes me nervous and often leads to not knowing the page number due to flipping too fast. I have also asked several people around me and online about this issue, and they have also encountered the same problem and cannot solve it. Currently, our alternative solution is to use the Macbook touchpad or purchase a separate Apple Magic Trackpad for Mac mini. When using the Trackpad, the above problem will not occur, and the experience is basically the same as on Windows 11. However, as is well known, the accuracy of touchpads in certain precise operations is still not as good as that of mouse, so some of my friends have given up using Acrobat on Mac OS.

Comparing the speed of scrolling pages with the mouse in Acrobat on MacOS Ventura and Windows 11 is an easy task. You just need to find a multi page PDF file and a regular mouse with a scroll wheel (instead of Apple's magic mouse), adjust the PDF zoom ratio to 100% or higher, and then scroll to see the obvious difference. PS, my mouse settings on MacOS Ventura and Windows 11 are all set to default, and Enable scrolling has been turned on in the Acrobat View tab. I tried to modify the MacOS settings and the mouse scrolling speed in the logi option+ (My mouse is Logitech Master3), but there was no improvement to the above issue. In addition, I also asked friends who had the same problem, and the answers I received were that they had also given up on solving the problem after trying different mouse in multiple times.

I still enjoy using Acrobat to read PDFs, so I don't want to give up my software usage habits just because I switch from Windows 11 to Mac OS. I hope you can double check and compare the above issues. If there is indeed a mouse support issue with the Mac version of Acrobat, please resolve it as soon as possible. Thank you.

Yes, I am using Logitech mouse and have been seen the answer you mentioned above, After following the operation method in this answer, the mouse scrolling speed of the Mac version of Acrobat is still much faster than that of the Windows version, and there is basically no effect.

What happens when you use the non-logitech mouse on Mac with Acrobat? Does that also result in fast scrolling speed?
Please try to use the non-logitech mouse on mac and see if that works fine.

Today, in order to test whether the above issue you mentioned can be attributed to the particularity of Logitech mouse, I specifically bought a regular Bluetooth mouse from another brand without Logitech's electromagnetic wheel, but the results are still not satisfactory. On Acrobat on Windows 11, with a PDF zoom ratio of 100%, it takes 5-6 mouse wheel scrolls to fully scroll to the next page, but on Mac OS Ventura, it only takes one scrolling to fully scroll to the next page. Although this situation is slightly better than when I was using Logitech Master3 (scrolling only once resulted in flipping 2 pages), it is still much faster than Acrobat's page flipping speed on Windows 11 (at least 5 times faster), which still prevents me from flipping pages with the mouse when I want to carefully read PDFs.

So that observation of yours is correct that we have fast scrolling on MAC compare to Windows.

So what do you mean is that you have also observed that Acrobat's page flipping speed on Mac is much faster than on Windows (not just the problem in my case)?

In addition, are you planning to schedule this meeting to explain to me whether the page flipping speed difference was specifically designed by Adobe or to point out that my Mac's page flipping speed is abnormal. Can I use some settings to make the page flipping speed the same as on Windows?

Hi, I want to check first on your system first whether the speed is abnormal or not. Also i can suggest some counter measure if you are not liking the experience. We have made some enhancement with regards to smooth scrolling and soon it will be happening for windows as well, so I specifically want to understand your user case as well.

Hi There,

The mouse version you are mentioning here is an infinity mouse and has a dedcicated button to slow it down so if you click this you will get a rather slow scrolling experience. If you still face the issue do le me know we can connect on a meeting for troubleshooting this problem of yours.

Thanks for your time, So based on our previous communication on Teams, this difference in mouse scrolling speed (Win11 vs Mac OS 14.0 (23A344)) is due to the system characteristics of Mac OS, not specifically designed by Adobe. 

After you helped me modify several options on Acrobat and Mac OS, the Mac version of Acrobat still cannot achieve the same slow scrolling speed as the Win11 version and the scrolling speed is still too fast to read the PDF carefully. And this issue only appears on the mouse, not on the Magic Trackpad.

So I understand that if we want to solve this problem next, to make the mouse scrolling speed of the Mac version of Acrobat as slow as the Win11 version, I can only wait for you to update for the Mac version of Acrobat, right?

I've been having the same issue.

On my Mac, the speed of mouse scrolling is consistent between all kinds of apps, but when I use Acrobat, the scrolling is crazy fast. I primarily use Preview, which does not have this issue (the speed of scrolling on a PDF file is consistent with on any other apps such as Safari, Word, etc.). However, I want to use Acrobat for the other features it provides. I've been just living with the issue, but I want it to be resolved at some point ...

I would also like to report this same behavior with my Mac M2 Mini Pro. I'm using a Logitech M185 mouse, which is a very basic mouse. When using Acrobat Reader (current release as of Dec 2023), the smallest scroll of the mouse moves from the top of one page to the bottom of the next page. It's not usable for reading. This problem does not occur in any other applications (Apple or non-Apple) and doesn't even occur in the scrollable dialog windows within Acrobat Reader. It's only when scrolling the main document window, so I cannot follow the logic that leads to the conclusion that this is a Logitech issue.

The excessive scrolling occurs whether Enable Scrolling is selected or not. What I described in my post above is with scrolling enabled. If I disable scrolling and then use the scroll wheel, Acrobat Reader moves several pages higher or lower in the document. This is actually worse than the other behavior. I can scroll the document more smoothly by grabbing the scroll bar with the mouse, but this is also awkard because Reader won't display the scroll bar until I move the scroll wheel (quite annoying on its own), so by then I've already moved two or more pages. It's just an odd implementation of a basic feature.  Again, no issues with any other applications.

I ended up removing Acrobat. I will say that I encountered the same crazy scrolling in another application recently. I don't even recall which one since I don't use it frequently, but it and Acrobat must have some common library dependency.

Enable scrolling (or disabling it) didn't do the trick for me. When I disabled scrolling it worked a little better, but scrolling was disabled and that's something that I don't want.
Neither is adjusting the scrolling speed in the mouse settings (because it works fine with every other application).
I think though, that my problem is not really the scrolling speed, but the fact that if you do about 4 scrolling points in a row, it was much further away in the document than if you do 4 scrolling points one by one (slowly).

Hi there

What is the version of the OS and the Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 24.02.20687 installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Also try to repair the installation from the help menu (Win Only) and see if that works.
