Unable to configure my Digital ID on Windows 11

Hello fellow users

I am having problems loading my digital certificate onto Adobe Acrobat Reader (Version 2022.003.20263 64-bit). If someone could give me a hand, that would be great.

 

This is what I do... I open the pdf I want to sign and go to the certificates section. I select the option to digitally sign, draw the space where I want the siganture and then receive the command titled "Digital ID Configuration Required" which I go ahead with. As I already have a (valid) Digital Certificate, I select the option to "Use a Digital ID from a file" after which I load the file, enter its password and click continue. I then select my file on the next screen, which is titled "Add digital IDs from a file" and click continue. But... it then returns me the pdf I want to sign without and further options. So I try again, following the same steps.... and nothing. Again and again and again.

Sometimes you have a digital certificate file that may be valid but its root certificat may have expired. 

 

Even if this is not your case, you may  need to reinstall and trust the root certificate again in Windows 11.

 

It is worth noting that a few things have changed in the ways that Adobe Acrobat used to conveniently integrate with Windows 10 and its earlier versions.

 

As you may know, this integration used to work well bewteen the Adobe Acrobat software that used to be hosted in that operating system,  and  accessed primarily via graphical user interface (GUI) through the Internet Explorer 11  (IE11) web browser.

 

The IE11 Settings used to act as a shell between the hosted programs (in this particular case we will refer to Adobe Acrobat) and  the operating system's File Explorer.

 

Since IE11 reached end of support back in June

2022, and while the new Micrososft Edge web browser that is shipped with Windows 11 do indeed provides the ability to integrate with Windows 11's File Explore, it may also be relevant if you enable the Micrososft Edge browser in IE11 Mode.

 

In doing that, it is advised to disable or uninstall IE11 completely to avoid unforseen conflicts with the Edge browser that is designed to be the default system's web browser, file handler, GUI shell and PDF viewer.

 

So to avoid unforseen issues with Edge browser, remove all of IE11 add-ons, plugins, accelerators or extensions, which can be donde in the Control Panel settings).

 

So, the whole point of this verbage is to keep in mind where a root certificate installs on Windows 11 and how to trust that root certificate when compared to Windows 10 and its earlier versions.
