Visible Scroll Bars disappeared with latest update

With the latest update, the visible scroll bars have disappeared. If you try to scroll with your mouse they will show but only momentarily. The developers intentionally removed the visible scrolls. It is NOT a setting. I don't know why. My team uses these scrolls (clicking in the scroll area) every day in how we check documents so right now Adobe is useless in that regard.

Adobe - Please have your developers re-enable the visible scrolls. This is super inconvenience for creative teams who use this feature all day.

Correct answer Amal.

Hi All

The issue has been addressed with the new version of Acrobat (23.08.20555) and now we have a preference to enable the scroll bar in Mac.
Please find details for the fix here:- https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/scroll-framework-upgrade-macos.html

Thank you for the update. I have Acrobat version 2023.008.20470 and under my app list it doesn't indicate that there's an upgrade. All my other apps are marked with "upgrade available". Also when I checked the preferences it doesn't include the "Always show scroll bars" as a check-off option. Is the new version not yet available? Please advise.

Hi there

We are sorry to hear that.

You may download the patch manually from the link https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/index.html and see if that works.

You must revert to the Classic UI: https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/acrobat-2023-how-to-revert-to-classic-gui-user-interface/td-p/14052807
Consider the "new Acroba"t as a beta version, many features are missing or half-implemented.

I'm echnoing what other users are saying--getting rid of the visible scroll bar was an awful decision. I often work on book-length PDFs of 300 or more pages, and I need to be able to move around in them any way I want to. "Go to page" doesn't work because I simply can't memorize what's on 400 pages of a book I haven't fully read. Keyword searches don't work (try to guess how many times "economy" appears in a book about the economy...). Grabbing the scroll tab icon while it appears for a brief second and then keeping my thumb on the laptop trackpad the whole time I'm in the PDF, just so I can slide that icon around, is ridiculous. The tiny bit of space that's gained by eliminating the scroll bar doesn't matter if Acrobat is now unusable. If you can't restore the scroll bar, I'll need to find a competitor product that lets me do what I need to. Disappointed in you, Adobe!

Hi there

We do not have a  fixed time line. Our engineers re still working on this. We will share the update as soon as we get any information.

Thanks for your time and patience so far.

Hi Amal,

It's over a year later and the scroll bars are still not fixed.  It's ridiculous that we are paying a monthly fee for "upgrades" that make the product almost unusable. When will this be fixed and why isn't it a priority?

Thanks,

Laura

While this explains that you guys decided arbitrarily that people don't need reliable scrolling access in Acrobat, it does provide solutions for someone working on a tablet vs a mouse. Does me being on a tablet mean I never get access to horizonal scrolling?

PLEASE bring the fixed scroll bars back. This should be a setting you can turn on and off, NOT something you guys decide we don't need.

Im having the same problem, as soon as I zoom into a page to read it I cant control scolling down to the rest of the page to read it. Im incredulous as to way software engineers/designers feel that hiding scrollbars is going to save us space or be a more efficient way of working – they've actually added an extra step now because you have to "move" your window for it to appear. I hate these arrogant attempts to try and change the way we work by removing things and forcing us to deal with it. This surely (hopefully) has to be a glitch.
