Hey,
Holger

Hope you are doing well.
If I understand your requirement correctly, you will disable the option to open documents as new tabs in the same window. You would rather it be open in a new tab or different window. Is that correct?
Step-1
Navigate to Acrobat Reader>Edit(Ctrl+K)>Preferences>General> Uncheck "open documents as new tabs in the same window.">OK (close and reopen Acrobat Reader)
If you do not find the above setting, that means you are in New View of Acrobat. So first, go to Acrobat>View>Disable New Acrobat.
Once done, then follow the Step-1.
Hope this helps!
Thanks,
Akanchha

Hi,
My Adobe has just updated to a newer version and this option is no longer available. It's extremely annoying to be unable to have PDFs open easily across multiple screens. I previously disabled the tabs and would really like to again.
As you can see from the snip below that option has disappeared within the Preferences > General pane. How do I disable the tabs now?
Thanks

Disable the new UI.

You are currently on Acrobat's New view if you do not see this option in the preferences.
As suggested by Bernd, disable New UI.
Click on the hamburger icon at the upper left corner and "Disable New Acrobat"
You can navigate to the above preferences once you switch to the old UI.
Thanks,
Akanchha
