Acrobat Reader DC IS NOT using the Windows Default printer since application reinstall

New Here ,

My PC was recently upgraded to Win10 Pro v1809. That means all my programs & devices needed to be reinstalled.  I'm running Acrobat Reader DC v2019.021.20056 and I have to reselect the printer on EVERY print job because it is NOT using the Windows default printer.  The default printer is set to B/W printing, but Acrobat Reader is defaulting to color, which is NOT the default for Windows.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Reader, I have changed and reselected the Windows default printer and nothing is working.  Is anyone else running into this problem?  Any suggestions?

We did a full install, not just an upgrade.

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply; is this happening with every PDF document you try to print with Adobe Reader, or is it happening with just that PDF document ?

Every PDF document. It displays correctly in the Print dialog (in grayscale), Print in Grayscale is selected, but when I select the Properties button, it shows that it is resetting to Factory Defaults (color), which IS NOT what my Windows default printer is. Then it prints in "grayscale" using color for the gray.

Hi,

That is odd.

According to this thread:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat/change-default-printer-for-acrobat-reader-when-default-window...

Acrobat Reader only takes the system defaults.

So this being not your case, I was wondering if when you upgraded to Windows 10 it was performed on top of the old operating system and not a fresh install of windows10.

If that is the case, this is what I would try:

  • Completely uninstall the printer driver and software from Windows.
  • It may be possible that old traces of the printer software resides in places like C:\ Program Files and/or C:\ Program Files(x86) respectively.
  • This may also include old registry entries.  Sometimes a third party registry cleaner becomes handy to remove any related orphaned and duplicated keys.
  • You can use the control panel -->>Programs--->> unisntall;  but if the device printer manufacturer provided you with software there may be an uninstall option that you can use.
  • Either method, you need to unplug your printer or turn  it off if it is accessed via WiFi when you perform the uninstall.
  • Visit the printer device manufacturer support website amd download the latest driver, full feature software, AND also grab  the latest firmware for that printer from there.
  • Follow the recommended installation steps from the vendor's user guide.
  • Alternatively, you can also use the Adobe Acrobat and Reader Cleanup and Repair tool, the Creative Cloud Cleanup Tool (if you are using the CC Desktop App)
  • Before you reinstall Acrobat using  Adobe's recommended methods, download and install the full offfline installer from here: https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/?scid=social46788336
  • when the installation is complete, open your Acrobat

NOTE: A few reboots in between the  uninstalls and reinstallation will be required before you test again if anything works as expected
