Adobe Acrobat Chrome Extension being Overridden by Default Chrome PDF Viewer

New Here ,
Apr 25, 2024 Apr 25, 2024

Hello,

I am encountering a frustrating issue where I am unable to open PDFs within the Acrobat chrome extension. When I first open the document, it will briefly load in Adobe Acrobat, then quickly redirect to displaying the PDF in the defualt Chrome PDF viewer. This makes me unable to edit PDFs before printing them. We use this process everyday and have never had an issue until now.

I have also tried simply opening the PDFs in the desktop version of Acrobat, this works, but I'm given a vague simply stating, "The document could not be printed, kindly use our help page to troubleshoot."

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like Chrome overwrites something. Did you ask in a Google forum?

Hello @João Paulo Câ34721715si59

I hope you are doing well, and thanks for reaching out.

Could you please share more details about the issue? Is it only happening with Chrome, or with other browsers as well?

For Chrome,

Disable Chrome’s Default PDF Viewer:

    • Go to chrome://settings/content/pdfDocuments
    • Toggle “Download PDFs” instead of opening them in Chrome.

Set Acrobat as the Default PDF Viewer:

  • In Windows: Right-click any PDF > “Open with” > Choose Acrobat > Check “Always use this app”.
  • In Acrobat: Go to Menu > Preferences > Internet and disable browser viewing

Ensure that the Acrobat Extension is updated to its latest version.

Let us know how it goes. If the issue persists, please share the current OS version, the Acrobat Extension version, the Chrome version and a quick screen recording for further investigations.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.
