I use an old work Dell Desktop (64 bit OS) so I can continue to access years of PDF documents. I had a version of Adobe Reader which worked fine until 9/17/24 when an updated version was pushed out and all of a sudden I could not open any PDF documents.
I am using Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1 6.1.7601 Build 7601
At the recommendation of an Adobe chat agent (Aki) I uninstalled the updated version of Adobe Reader and downloaded the 32 bit version (since I am using Windows 7)
Help! It is not working
The message I get is:
AcroRD32.exe – Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point EventSetInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll
Acrobat Failed to Load Its Core DLL
Can you please provide me with the information I need to get it working so I can access my PDF documents?
Thanks-
Arthur

Hi all,
Please don't install this version of Acrobat on your machines and that too be the installer from a third-party link. Adobe doesn't provide any support for Reader 9.0. We don't provide any kind of support or update for this product version. It has long been declared End of Life and End of Support Product.

I am no computer expert. But I tried a suggestion I found while searching for solutions, and it solved my problem. Go to Microsoft Update Catalog for Wndows 7. In search box type "KB3080149". There is a version of this update for x64 as well. Download update and run it. The computer needs to be restarted for update to take effect. Try opening Adobe and see if it works. It worked for me.

Tariq, how do I do this update to my Windows 7?
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe but it is still looking for this ADVAPI32 DLL.
I downloaded the KB3080149 MSU file, doubled clicked, but Windows can't open the file.
Please help...Doug

Hi @doug_1920,
There are a couple of ways to do it. Launch Reader > Help > Check for updates. Follow the on-screen instructions and that should be it. If that doesn't work.
You can try this link: https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC download the latest patch for Reader available, once downloaded try installing installing by double clicking on the downloaded file.
Let us know if that works.

I downloaded the 64 bit MSP and it automatically ran, but Windows could not find the program to open it.

@doug_1920 You may try downloading the 32-bit installer and try again.

So I found the Windows installer 5.0 on my system (32-bit) and using the Command line as the admin, I tried to do the patch. It opened the patch and ran just fine, but the dialog said "The upgrade patch could not be installed because the program to be upgraded may be missing or incorrect version..." I even copied the patch to C:\ root, but still the same result. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the reader, but to no avail...
