Adobe Reader - shared review/ commenting not working

New Here ,
Oct 01, 2024 Oct 01, 2024

Hi,

in our company we are using the shared review function for commenting. Until recently everything worked fine, but now we started having problems with Adobe Ready.

Normally we have this process:

  • We setup a shared review PDF in Adobe Acrobat DC (which we have only within our documentation group)
  • Send the link to colleagues, who than enter their comments via Adobe Reader

The issue we are having is, that in DC everything works fine, but the colleagues who open the links in Adobe Reader (some of them, not all) don´t have access to the commenting functions, so it is useless.

I think it might something to do with the "Extended functions" not initiating properly in Acobar Reader, but I´m not sure. Do you, please, have any tip how to resolve this? This function is crutial to us.

I will appreciate any help!

Thank you in advance!

Hi Ivan,

Sorry for the inconvenience, can you please share below details to help us investigate the issue further

1. version of app installed on your machine

2. Since when did you start facing this issue?

3. Are those users(who cant add comments) able to open the shared files but do not see commenting tools ? Do they see any error?

4. The users(who cant add comments), are they present in the list shown when you click on the collaborators list when file is open (see screenshot below)

Have dropped a separate message to you, if possible, can you share a file link with us where this issue is observed.

Thanks in advance,

Rohit A

Hi Rohit,

thanks for your reply!

I have actually managed to solve the issue already. The cause of the problem was connected to the "Extended functions", which didn´t iniate properly in Acrobat Reader. The solutions in the end was to open the affected files in Adobe DC and re-save (overwrite existing file) via: File → Save as other → Reader extended PDF → Enable commenting and measuring. This enable the commenting functions again even in Reader only, while maintaining the old link to the review PDF file.
