Application Error when opening PDF Document

New Here ,
Jan 17, 2017 Jan 17, 2017

Received two emails in past week with a PDF attached to each.

On opening one PDF it came up with a banner which said "Font Capture AcroRd.exe - Application Error and some text about instruction at referenced memory. The memory could not be read".

On opening the other PDF it came up with a banner which said "DDE Server Window AcroRd.exe - Application Error and some text about instruction at referenced memory. The memory could not be read".

Could do nothing with either document and clicking the OK button on the banner closed Adobe.

Only way I could find to get around this was to open Adobe, go to Help and click on Check for Updates. The result of doing so is a message that says "No Updates Available". However If I then open either of the PDFs the banner does not appear and I can scroll down, print etc etc.  But this "fix" only lasts the one time. If I try to open the other PDF or the same ione again, up comes the banner and I have to check for Adobe updates again !

Help please,

Thanks,

Dave.

Hi daved84657357,

Try to follow below mention steps:

1- Close Reader.

2- Change compatibility settings for Reader- locate Reader shortcut on desktop>right click>select Properties>under Compatibility tab>check the box Run this program in compatibility mode for, and select Windows 7 from the drop down options>click Apply>OK

3- Relaunch Reader.

4- If that doesn't work, disable Protected Mode- launch Reader>click Edit>Preferences>Security(Enhanced)uncheck the box Enable Protected Mode at startup>OK

5- Try to open attached pdfs.

Please note: Disabling Protected Mode is for troubleshooting purpose only, and not recommended. Please turn the feature back on after troubleshooting is complete.

Could you please confirm the version of Reader installed on the machine?

Adorobat,

Many thanks.

Unfortunately the steps did not work; the banners kept coming up when I went to open the PDFs.

Just for information, I then turned Protected Mode back on.

Your question regarding the version of Reader installed, prompted me to look at it. It said 15.023.20053. However, this time there was an update, which I installed and so it is now version 15.023.20056 on my computer. Now there is no problem with opening, printing etc the PDFs that I received attached to emails. I even turned the computer off and restarted it a couple of times with the same happy result. All would appear to be working as it should.

Very many thanks,

Dave.
