Arobat Reader shows hyroglyphic / weired characters

Since weeks we have the problem, that most - not all - PDF openend with Adobe Acrobat Reader 24.002.20857 shows hyroglyphic characters. Any other PDF viewer shows the PDF correct. Any other user on the same machine can open the PDF with Acrobat Reader without any problems, only one specific user is affected.

What we tried so far:

  • We created a new user profle. That solved the problem for a few days, than same symptom.
  • Uninstalled and reinstallt Reader -> no solution, problem persists.
  • Used the removal tool and some handcraft to delete all traces of Adobe, reinstalled Reader -> works for a few days, than same symptom.
  • Just today, un- and reinstall didn't help. Again with the removal tool and some handwork, reinstallations -> now it works again. But surely again only for a few days.

We found no traces in the eventlog or any other logs. Windows 10 22H2 is patched.  The user has no admin rights, we can't see that any kind of software or patch is been installed around the time when the problem strikes again.

Dr. Google shows some similar posts but most of them without answer. When there was a answer, we tried the solution but with no permanent success.

Unfortunately I cannot share the file, but of course a screenshot.

Parts of the text is readable, most is glibbish. There are other PDFs, where the text is basically readable, but the font is mixed up, the spacing between the characters is uneven, sometimes large, some character are overlapping and so forth. Unfortunately I don't have a screenshot of this situation right now.

 

Any ideas?

Did you create the files, or did you get them from someone else? If you created them, how did you do so?

Does that same thing happens when you open it on another computer, preferably with a different version of Reader?

Without seeing a sample file it's very difficult to say for sure what's going on, though.

LATEST

Almost all PDFs comes per email or download from portals. And it happens only with one user and with Acrobat Reader, latest version. This user, any other PDF viewer is OK, any other user with any PDF reader, inclusive Acrobat is OK (see my first posting for details).

Our next attempt is to use a brand new PC, new windows, new user profile, everything new. But as I have not the slightest idea where this is coming from (and why it works for one week and then strikes again) I'm afraid it happens again ...
