Hi,

I can't open any dialog window, when I open pdf inside IE via Adobe pdf plugin.

Any dialog, I mean "Print", "Document properties" from context menu and also custom(xfa.host.messageBox)

I use PDF xfa form created in Adobe Livecycle Designer 11.0.

I tried standard(non-xfa) PDF in IE too => same behavior

When I open pdf in standalone Reader, everything works fine.

I already tried Repair installation, Acrobat cleaner tool and also download latest Reader.

Nothing works.

Same files works on different machine in IE (Win7,AR 2020.009.20063)

My configuration:

Windows 10 Enterprise v2004 OS build 19555.1001

Adobe Reader 2019.010.20098

IE 11.1001.19555.0

Hi there!

I hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble you had.

The version of Adobe Reader DC installed is very old from February 21, 2019 19.010.20098 Out of cycle update

Please install the latest update of Adobe Reader DC from the help menu > select check for updates, reboot the machine if possible after updating Adobe Reader and check on this machine.

The latest available version of Adobe Reader DC is 20.009.20063 Planned update, May 12, 2020

If the issue is specific to one machine, then please try creating a new test user profile with full admin rights or enable the hidden administrator account, install the latest Adobe Reader DC and check.

For testing purposes, please disable the Enable protected mode at startup in Adobe Reader > Properties > Enhanced Security> Click OK, restart the application and check.

Let us know how it goes and share your observations.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

Hi There!

Thank you for reporting the issue.

Please check your registries for below entry :

  1. Click Win+R and type "regedit" and press Enter
  2. Goto "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Adobe\Acrobat Elements\DC\InstallPath"
  3. Check for Default path value- C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat DC\Acrobat Elements

If the above default value is not created then registry needs to be created. (Check Screenshot)

regsitry_upload.PNG

Please do let us know, if the same fixes your issue.

Regards,
Swapnil Srivastava

I am getting the same issue where dialog boxes using xfa.host.messageBox no longer show in IE. They will show when opening the same document locally in Adobe Reader DC.

I do have the registry you listed.

I am using IE 11.388.19041.0

I'd like to report this too.  "xfa.host.messagebox" and "app.alert" are both failing.

Other  "xfa.host" actions work as can be seen in this example test page:  https://www.aduk.net/pdfTest/

"xfa.host.messageBox" is also failing in the "PDF preview" mode of Livecycle designer.

The test form works as expected when run locally in Acrobat (v2020.012.20048) but not when run as an embedded form in IE.

These builds of Windows and IE 11 work:
10.0.17763 Build 17763, IE 11.1518.17763
10.0.18362 Build 18362, IE 11.1139.18362

These ones don't:
10.0.19041 Build 19041, IE 11.572.19041
10.0.19042 Build 19042, IE 11.572.19041

From another thread:

Work around found:

  • Open Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • From the menus, select “Edit” then “Preferences”
  • In the preferences dialog, select “Security (Enhanced)” from the list of categories
  • In “Sandbox Protections” uncheck “Enable Protected Mode at startup”
  • Restart Acrobat
