Why can't I save PDFs to my PC anymore? Whether in Reader or Acrobat Pro DC, the save button is grayed out. HELP
I have never had a problem saving PDFs to any PC. Now with some apparent move to the cloud, I no longer have the option to save. Why have a save button that is grayed out? I have tried Reader, I downloaded a trial of Acrobat Pro DC to see if that made a difference, but no. I cannot find any option within Adobe's menus to simply "Save" or "Save as" and save the PDF to my PC. It should not be this hard!!!

I just discovered a trick. In my download list, I clicked on an older file and the "save as" feature opened. Then, when I went back to the file I want to save, the "save as" feature was back on.

Until I read this thread, I found I could drag the icon for the attached .PDF file at the bottom of the email and drag it to the desktop of my iMac running OS Ver. 10.12.6. Then it was a matter of putting it in the right place on my HD.
After reading, I'll try some of the other methods described earlier.
Crazy!

It should not be so hard. Why has no one from Adobe provided a simple patch or answer to this problem ????????
Please Adobe read this forum and provide a simple solution. This problem is doing your reputation damage.
How can I ensure that when I open a PDF file that I can then simply save it on my hard drive or cloud storage. This used to be so so simple.

While you have your document open, click on "Help" and then click on "Repair Installation".
Try that...it worked for me. Know I can open in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and save as the same.

Thanks Kris, but sadly it did not work.
I am using the technique at present from an earlier forum entry, Shift, Control S. It opens a save as dialogue box. But, as I said before, the program should not have the save symbol greyed over. I am also having trouble scanning from a printer/scanner to pdf since upgrading to this version of adobe. Very annoying. I will persist.

Dang!! Aggravating!
I had to "Repair Installation" again today.....so I'm not sure what the permanent fix is.
Too bad there is a direct phone number to get these problems resolved!!

Solved. Go to "Add or remove programs" Find Adobe Acrobat Pro DC. Click Uninstall
Find another pdf viewer that lets you save it onto your computer.

LOL, Of course, one could uninstall and find a different program, that doesn't solve the issue with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. The issue is still not resolved
Not sure how this was marked as helpful....I didn't mark the response as helpful. Evidently, Adobe must have. The response to uninstall and find another was not helpful. (common knowledge to do that, I would like an actual "fix".)

A lot of people (including myself) seem to be frustrated with this, but I have a workaround.
When you open a pdf, click FILE and then reopen it from the recent documents list. You can then SAVE AS wherever you like.
That worked for me.

Well, I guess we have to use another program from a different company. Try Architect 4 (version number), may not be the most updated but, you can get the updated version after downloading 4. So you can read and save without using Adobe's product. If a file you've opened won't save as...reopen using architect 4 from your toolbar or under Edit and Preferences, you can ask it to open with Architect 4.
Thanks, Adobe for your wonderful and timely assistance to this problem!!! (NOT!!)

Here we go again & now Adobe is getting on the band wagon, congratulations.
Another example of how a company is shafting us into purchasing something that we already have & worked so well.
Just another ploy of deception just like Microsoft with its brain child "Office 365".
I have been using Adobe for years with no issues, now somebody decided to make changes for their own "Self Gratification" which renders its users helpless.
Well done Adobe, well done.

I had a similar problem. What I did was:
1. Right-clicked and then clicked "print"
2. Clicked "change" (changing the printer)
3. It opened up a new tab and one of the option was "save as pdf"
4. I clicked on that
5. Voila! it's saved.

Here is what I've discovered....Adobe doesn't want to play with Chrome. So they will not make changes to make it easier for us. They want us to use Microsoft's Bing (which seems very archaic to me, but that's my opinion.)
I am now using FoxIt Reader....it's fabulous!!! And free. You can add (pay) for other add-ons, but the free version allows you to write/type on your documents and, I believe, sign the documents, also. I googled the best free pdf readers and this was one of the top, if not the top rated.
There is more than one way to skin a cat. I don't like companies that think they can "handle/manipulate" us into using "their" products. If the products don't play well with other products that are used by the majority of people, then.......ding ding k.o.!!

The truth is the exact opposite, actually. Chrome doesn't want to "play" with Adobe. The Adobe plugin used to work in Chrome just fine but then they changed their policy regarding plugins and now it doesn't. Coincidentally (or maybe not), Chrome now uses its own built-in PDF plugin, which is sub-par when compared to the Adobe plugin. Firefox did the same thing, by the way.
And what you're saying about Bing doesn't make sense. What does it have to do with anything? Maybe you mean Internet Explorer?
Oh, and Adobe Reader can do both of those things without problems, and much more. But if you found an application that works for you then more power to you!

Do you work for Adobe? If so, you'd best change the numerous posts that show up on Google explaining what I wrote.
I am aware that Adobe Reader can do both of what I shared the Foxit does. But I can't open Adobe Reader without having to manipulate how I can open the saved document. The reason for this post.
"Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser is so last year. With the introduction of Windows 10, the software giant has changed the default browser that comes with its new operating system and called it Edge."

I knew that because I've googled and researched for months as to the problem. I've read numerous posts as to why it makes sense that Adobe wouldn't "play fair" with competing browser products, not why Chrome wouldn't play fair with one (major) pdf product.

Had the same issue in Acrobat Pro - go to preferences and the general tab - uncheck the box next to 'Show online storage..."
