Cannot Resize Too Large Print Dialog Box

Guest
Jan 06, 2011 Jan 06, 2011

When trying to print using Reader X, the print dialog is huge and the "OK" button extends off the bottom, making it inaccessible.  I have tried resizing the print box but the handles that appear on the edges will not adjust the size of the box.  This happens no matter the size of the Reader window with which I am working.

Is anybody else running into this problem? Any idea how to fix it?

I am using a screen resolution of 1024 x 768.

Thanks.

On computers with low resolution, such as 800 X 600, the Print and Cancel buttons can be off the screen. The free 10.1.3 update to Reader and Acrobat addresses this issue. You can install this update automatically from within Reader and Acrobat. If you cannot update at this time, do any of the following:

  • Drag the scroll bar on the right side of the Print dialog box down to access the buttons.
  • To print, press Enter or Return.
  • To cancel, press Esc.

My windows default font was not set. After setting it and restarted Reader my issues went away.

Here is the answer that worked for me:

Acrobat and Reader now take advantage of Hi-DPI monitors and can scale the user interface to 200%. This is automatically enabled using system settings and can be customized by choosing Preferences > General > Scale for screen resolution. The value is set to Auto by default, but it can be forced to 100% or 200%. Other items such as the font size, menu items, and drop down lists are controlled by the user’s system control panel rather than application’s preferences.

11.0.07 scaling settings options and behavior are as follows:

  • Auto
    • For settings up to 150%, display the UI at 100%
    • For settings 150% or higher, display the UI at 200%
  • 100%
  • 200%

I have a larger resolution, but still had to scroll down to hit print.  That in itself wasn't too annoying, but the printer was autoselected, so when I scrolled with my mouse it would change the printer I was using.

This resolution worked for me and I think will work for a lot of you as well.  Open reader, and then go to edit->preferences.  Click on General on the left hand side. Change "Scale screen resolution (requires restart):" to 100%, then scroll to the bottom and hit OK.  Close reader, and then re-open it.  The print dialog box when I went to print after that was a normal size.

Not one of these "solutions" is satisfactory. However I did find a real solution somewhere that fixed the problem properly without having to mess with the screen resolution. Then I uninstalled Adobe Reader XI because another of its features was irritating me to death. Like PutridBeast above, I switched to another pdf software (not PDF-Xchange but thanks for the tip - it might be better than the Nuance product).

Unfortunately Nuance PDF Standard has its own irritating features so I then re-installed Adobe Reader XI to use only when I wanted a certain feature. So now I have the Adobe Reader huge print dialog box all over again!

I have searched through all my internet history to try and find the solution I found before, but with no success.

Isn't there someone out there who has found the same solution I found to this 4 year old problem?

LoriiAUC, this is not the correct answer. PutridBeast has a high resolution monitor. Your answer assumes he has a low-res monitor.

I've noticed this silly problem since Reader DC was forced on my a few weeks ago.  (Guess that's what happens when you get something for free.)  I'm using version 2015.008.20082.  When it 'updated' to this version, my "print" button was off the bottom of the screen - my monitor is HD and when I checked, the visible window was 1047 pixels deep to just above the "Print" button.

Yes, the elevator/scroll bar lets me go to the button, but it is a bit annoying.

Looking at all the suggested solutions, I checked for a Preference to set scaling - no dice.  It's been removed in my version.  I had 'auto detect' set and I switched it to 'no scaling'.  That solved the problem, but everything is now tiny.  I prefer the view when scaling is set to 'auto deterct'.  But then I can't see the "Print" button.

This is REALLY annoying.  Whoever invented 'auto detect' scaling forgot to re-scale the Print dialog !!!  Adobe - please fix it.

Experienced the same issue and this resolved it. In Adobe v.11 go to: Help > Repair Installation (*Restart required)

I had this problem running Windows 10 on a brand new laptop.  The issue is the one outlined above about text size etc.  Mine was default set at 150%, when I changed it to 125% all of the dialogue box became instantly visible.  A bit daft that Adobe doesn't sort out this glitch in Acrobat - it's a an expensive app at £15 a month compared to photoshop, for example.  It is the only application that I have had this issue with and I will now have to re-adjust the font size for my own comfort every time I come out of Acrobat.

So just go to your desktop screen, right click on it, select display and adjust the character/font setting.  Mine worked, as I said, at 125%

Good luck!

This same problem only surfaced on my Dell laptop running Win10x64 and Acrobat Reader DC latest version. There was an update to Reader DC recently so maybe that's what did it. However, crinnauthor's solution above worked perfectly for me too. Thanks a million!
