I've seen this issue discussed over the past 4 years with no substantive answer from Adobe as to whether there is any plan to update their plugins for Chrome -- and now Firefox, both of which now will not support the NPAPI versions of browser plugins for security reasons. This is significant as we direct our customers to use browsers in which they can view embedded PDFs using the Acrobat Reader plugin as it does a better job of rendering/printing PDF than the 3rd-party plugins. Currently of the 4 most popular browsers we can only recommend IE -- and soon that will likely not be an option either.
So, can someone speaking for Adobe please answer the question. Are there plans to provide an updated secure version of the plugin that will enable us to use Acrobat Reader in Chrome and Firefox? If so, any estimate on when this will happen? Or, is this something Adobe categorically has no interest in supporting? I find it surprising that there is so little interest in continuing to integrate with web browsers.
Does anyone know of any workaround to use Acrobat Reader to view PDFs in current versions of either Chrome or Firefox?
Thanks.

Hi Must_have_screen_name,
Sadly, there is not much that can be done about this.
Please refer to the document in the link below for more information on the same:
Change in support for Acrobat and Reader plug-ins in modern web browsers
Thanks,
Supriya

If someone knows, they are generally under an NDA so they won't be able to say. If I had to guess (and I do) I would assume that they are working on it but, just a guess.

Can I assume that the pdf's you are having issues with are forms or interactive? Mostly those are the only ones that the non-supported browser have issues with.

I'd really guess they are not and once IE gives way to Edge they will be out of the browser support market. This is not based on any inside information. The writing is on the wall. Edge, and the iOS browsers, don't allow add ins.
