Copy & Paste from pdf documents

I am using Copy & Paste (by mouse) in Win 10 on pdf documents to lift numerical values into another program.  Recently I have received some pdfs which do not respond to this operation.  Is this perhaps because these latest  pdfs were formed in an older version of Adobe Reader.?   If this is so, how can I upgrade these latest pdfs to be able to achieve the Copy & Paste with mouse as I have been doing?  Need help here.  Please advise - anyone.

It's most likely because they only contain images, not real text, but without seeing the files it's impossible so say for sure.

At any rate, there's nothing you can do about it in the free Reader.
