I saved a Visio 2013 document as a PDF. I can't ctrl find some words but can others. How do I fix this?
1 Correct answer
There are approximately 40 containers created in Visio 2013 the exact same way but with different names in each container. All names are searchable with the exception of 4. There is no Word Art involved. I made the PDF from Visio by clicking File, Save as Adobe PDF. The PDF support team is currently looking at the document itself to see if they can find a solution. In the mean time, I recreated the tab containing these 4 names and they are now all searchable. I didn't want to recreate because I

Hello Chrisg,
We're sorry for the trouble you had with find feature in a PDF. Please navigate to Adobe Reader's Preferences from Edit>Preferences>Search>click on the Purge Cache Contents box/button and uncheck the 'Fast Find'>Click OK and then try searching the words in the PDF.
Is it specific to one PDF file or with all the PDF files? Is it a scanned PDF with images or PDF with text?
Is it a Mac or Windows machine and what is the version of OS installed? What is the dot version of Adobe Reader installed? To identify, refer to Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC
If it is specific to one PDF file, Is it possible to share the PDF file with us so that we can test it at our end? To share the file, please use Adobe Send feature, upload the file, share the link to files via private message only, How Do I Send Private Message
Make sure that you have the latest version of Adobe Reader installed, check for the latest/pending updates from help>check for updates, reboot the machine after updating Adobe Reader.
Let us know how it goes and share your observation.
Thanks,
Anand Sri.

Hello Chrisg,
Thanks for sharing the details. Is it saved as PDF or saved as Adobe PDF? If it is specific to one PDF file, then it seems to be a document specific issue. Try creating the PDF file again as Adobe PDF. I have also sent a private message to you, please share the file in the private message.
Thanks,
Anand Sri.

Has the text you can't "find" been converted to Outlines in Visio? Is it Word Art? Is there anything else unique about it?
How did you make the PDF from Microsoft VIsio?
Adobe does not own PDF; they gave it away many years ago. If you used a Microsoft program to create the source file and then used Microsoft technology to make the PDF, you may need to ask on a Microsoft support page, as Adobe Acrobat may not have been involved. Please tell us your method for creating the PDF from Microsoft Visio so we can better assist.

Hi Chris,
I was trying to think of some of the logical reasons that Find didn't work—I'm glad you are up and running with recreating the tab with the four names.
If the Adobe Support Team finds the issue, please post it—and either way, I hope it never happens to you again!
