Dear All,

I have created a form on Acrobat Reader and add an Excel attachment in it.

When i click the attachment it directly opens Excel Spreadsheet. Then after clicking "Enable Editing" button on the Excel menu, i'm able to edit and save the document.

However, whenever i share the pdf file with another user, he/she is able to open the pdf but they are able to open the Excel file as Read-Only mode only and they can't make any changes on it.

Please see the attachment as well.

I have tried a few steps but it doesn't work.

Need your support on this issue.

Best regards,

Huseyin.

Hi @Huseyin22048662fsy1

1. Is it happening with a particular excel file or with every excel?

2. Try to send the same excel without attaching it on the PDF, and check if they are able to open it.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks,

Harsh

Hi @Harsh Vardhan Pareek

1) It's happening with every excel file which i attached.

2) Users are able to open PDF files without any issue but when they click the excel attachment on the left menu, they are only able to open the excel file as read only.

Are you sure you're using Reader, and not the paid-for Acrobat?

Because you can't create forms in the former, nor edit attached files. You can in the latter.

If a Reader user wants to edit a file that's attached to a PDF they need to copy it to their local computer first, and then open and edit it. They won't be able to re-attach the edited file to the PDF, though, unless they use the Attach File commenting tool.

I have paid for Acrobat Pro version and created the form with it.

However, users are not have paid version, they only use free version.

You mean there is no way to open the file with having read/write permissions if you are using free version of it?

Not if you only have Acrobat, no. To do it requires applying a very special right to the file, using a server product from the LiveCycle/AEM family of apps.
