Files Auto Converting to .PDF when Downloading

I use windows 10 and when Acrobat Reader is installed, documents that I try to download that are in a .FNM format from my email for example, will automatically be downloaded as a .PDF. I need the file .FNM to stay in that format in order to be able to download it into the CRM that I use for work but when Adobe automatically changes it into a .PDF format.. my CRM does not recognize the file anymore and will not let me download it. However, if I uninstall Acrobat Reader then that doesnt happen anymore and the downloaded format of a file stays original. When Acrobat is reinstalled though it also changes the format of previous docs already downloaded on my desktop as a .FNM now into a .PDF again.. This was something that not always happened but just started happening and I'm not sure if I accidentally changed a setting at one point.

After the download what file extension have the files?

It might be automatically changed, but Acrobat Reader isn't what is doing it. It can't do that. So if it's actually happening, something else is doing it. More likely, Windows is just confused about what app opens FNM files. How did you used to open FNM files? Are these mortgage data files?

Yes, they are mortgage files. I don't think I was able to open them before unless I opened it in word pad or notepad. When I go into properties I can change how that file opens.. but I need it to stay in the format that it is in order to upload it into our CRM. I attached one photo where it shows the way it will open when adobe is installed and then another photo what it should show when adobe is uninstalled.

Ok, what probably happened is that you once double clicked on the files and Windows asked you what app to use. You (or someone) chose Acrobat Reader. But that's just what happens when you double click, and what icon to show. The files are NOT converted or changed in any way, so you should be able to upload them exactly as before.

Yeah I believe that is what happened as well but I want to change it back haha. I cant upload those files into my CRM when they are like that first picture in my last comment.

I was going through the thread, and this looks like a typical case where the default application for opening any file has been switched to Acrobat.
