How to remove black upgrade popup from Reader

New Here ,
Dec 31, 2022 Dec 31, 2022

Good morning. I recently had to reinstall my computer and ever since, when using Acrobat Reader in the comments function I am getting a black pop up inviting me to upgrade if I want to add text, or delete text. It happens when I use the commenting tools to delete something or to add a word. How do I disable this pop up? It has an 'upgrade' link on it. Thank you.

Hi @AlisonLH

Thanks for reaching out.

We assume you are referring to upgrading Acrobat Reader to Acrobat Pro (subscription version). Is that right?

Change the following preference and see if that helps

To turn off the notifications on your computer, please try the following steps:

Go to Edit (Windows), Adobe Acrobat (Mac) > Preferences > General > Uncheck 'Show me messages when I launch Adobe Acrobat Reader' Under messages from Adobe. > Click OK and reboot the application.

Thanks,

Akanchha

@AkanchhaS

Unfortunately, your suggestion doesn't work: after unchecking this option and restarting the application, this option is checked again. I am not the only one to report it.
What is the way to uncheck it for good?

Thanks,
Guy

Hi guy_1115,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry for the trouble caused.

Please try reinstalling the application using the steps suggested below:

- Remove the application and run the cleaner tool (https://adobe.ly/4aAK5TC).
- Reboot the machine
- Install Adobe Acrobat Reader from the following page: https://adobe.ly/49Xpw3D.

Then you can check if the changes in the preferences get saved or not.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

Hi Meenakshi Negi,

Thanks for your reply, but meanwhile I had asked an AI for a procedure - it directed me to add some entries in the register for Acrobat Reader. It works fine now (no popups).
By the way, I think that on the way to that solution that AI had also suggested what you just did - to no avail. So changing the register is (for me) the way to go.
