How to stop Adobe Reader from installing the latest version when installing Win 11 monthly update

Explorer ,
May 15, 2024 May 15, 2024

I have installed the 2019 version which i much prefer to more recent versions and disabled both the Adobe Acrobat Update Service in Start-up type in "services" and in "Task Scheduler Library." But when i do the monthly windows 11 update, it automatically deleates the 2019 version and downloads and installes the 2024 version instead.  Is there any way i can stop this from happening?

Check in the preferences and disable the “Automatically install updates”:

Hi there

Hope you are doing well.

Adobe Acrobat Reader is set up for automatic updates by default. It does not provide any UI option in the preferences to control this setting.

IT Administrators can control the update settings using the Adobe Customization Wizard or the Windows Registry

After waiting some time for an answer....I ask again! Why don't I have an "Updater" in my screenshot? So that I may turn off Automatic updates?

Hi @stephen_3700,

Hope you are doing well. Sorry for the trouble with disabling the updater.

Are you using an IT-managed device?

If yes, your IT admin may have disabled the feature from the backend, and you must contact them for further assistance.

If not, you can try the registry setting below to disable auto updates for Acrobat:

Go to Start > Registry Editor > location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\{version}\FeatureLockdown

Add Dword: bUpdater

Value: 0

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Souvik.

Hi, thank you for replying .... This is my home gaming PC (Windows 11) I am the only user and admin, using the free version of Acrobat Reader as it comes! I don't know why the "Updater" is missing under the Preferences options? I have gone through the menu and through my account the Preferences are both the same as my screenshot!!

I've never interfered with the registry settings before so I'm not very confident in doing so, but thanks for your help, I guess I'll have to trust Adobe to let it do it's thing...I normally like to control what and when programs update!

Kind regards,

Steve.

Hi, thanks for that answer, you learn something new every day! But why not just add it? So it's easy to toggle off without faffing around in the registry? As said, I want to know what comes into my PC, I trust no one and nothing on the internet these days. Now I have been told what to do, I will learn Windows Registry to know how to do it!

Regards

Steve
