I just did ANOTHER fresh install of Adobe, because, ya know, it's Adobe. And now I can't get the search bar to go away. It's taking up too much space on my open documents tab and I want to boot it from this earth. How do I make the search bar disappear? It wasn't there 20 minutes ago before I reinstalled. So why can't I find a way to get rid of it now?
Used to be a check box, used to be easy, used to like Adobe too, but that was year and years and years ago now.
Here's how I got the search box to go away. Not sure why it worked, but it did. Click Edit + Advanced Search. When the new windo popped up, I clicked arrange windows and then closed the pop-up. Hopefully this helps someone!
Hope you are doing well.
Thanks for sharing what worked for you.

In case you need further deep-dive in to how to remove the search features, you can refer to this link for more: https://adobe.ly/4jRm9gu.
Hope this helps.

Simple search used to be a pop-up. Now, it is integrated in my open documents tab bar, and I can't make it go away. It is taking too much space. The solution above does not work.

In the version I'm forced to use (if my employer allowed me to, the first thing I'd do is to get rid of this amalgamation of bugs and get a decent reader), the search opens as a pop-up as long as I have only few documents open. As soon as there are enough tabs to fill the tab bar (so basically: when I *need* the full width of the tab bar), the search merges into the tab bar and is joined by this stupid, stupid, stupid "test Acrobat Pro" ad banner, wasting one third of the tab bar. As soon as I close enough tabs, both vanish and the search is a pop-up again. Seriously, who the **** codes crap like this and thinks it's a good idea? Don't they USE their own reader over at Adobe?

Hello,
Thanks for reaching out.
If you are talking about a floating search bar, you may try the preference: launch Acrobat, press Ctrl or Cmd + K > Preferences > Generative AI, try unchecking "Show AI query bar on document," and click OK. Re-launch Acrobat.
Let us know how it works.
Best regards,

I'm happy to report that there is no "Generative AI" submenu in my preferences. It's all about the normal search bar you use by pressing CTRL-F.
