New Here ,
Aug 21, 2018 Aug 21, 2018

After I updated Acrobat Reader, the hand tool is now stanard every time I open a document. Because of my work, I copy a lot from PDF and would like the selection tool, to be standard. However, I can't find a setting to do so and therefore I am submitting this question in hope of help.

Looking forward to receiving a soloution.

Best Regards

Simon S. Mikkelsen

Hello Simon,

Greetings from Adobe.

With the description above, I can understand that you want to make the Selection Tool as default, Is that correct?

Please navigate to Adobe Reader's Preferences from Edit>Preferences>General and try to unmark the box for "Make Hand tool select text and images" and "Make Hand tool Read articles "option. Then click OK and relaunch the application.

Let us know how it goes and share your findings.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

Thank you for sharing the details Simon, Sign out from Adobe Reader, reboot the machine and sign back in and check for any pending updates of Adobe Reader, install them and reboot the machine.

Reset Adobe Reader's Preferences once and reboot the machine, to reset the Preferences, refer to the steps mentioned in the article How to reset Acrobat Preference settings to default.

Then navigate to Adobe Reader's Edit menu>Select Preferences>uncheck all the options of Hand tools, click Okay. Then navigate to Edit → Preferences → General (under Categories) → set Touch Mode to Never. Then try to change the Hand tool to the Selection tool.

Check if that works. If that works, you can then check the box again for "Restore last view settings when reopening documents".

It will remember the last tool selected in the document.

Make sure that you have the latest version of Adobe Reader installed, check for any pending updates from help>check for updates, reboot the machine after updating Adobe Reader.

What is the dot version of Adobe Reader installed? To identify refer to Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC

Is it a Mac or Windows machine and what is the dot version of OS installed?

Let us know how it goes and share your observation.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

Hi Anand

Thank you for your quick replys.

Unfortunately, none of your suggestions work.

I have also tried to run your Cleaner Tool, without any luck.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Simon S. Mikkelsen

Hello Simon,

Sorry for the delayed response and for the inconvenience caused, Reader DC always Retains the last used Cursor (Selection or Hand tool) on Relaunch. Please install the latest patch of Adobe Reader 2018.011.20063 from help>check for updates or from DC Release Notes — Release Notes for Acrobat DC Products

If the issue still persists, please create a test user profile with full admin rights and install Adobe Reader and check.

Let us know how it goes and share your findings.

Thanks for your time and patience thus far.

Regards,

Anand Sri.
