When attempting to print duplex (double-sided) on my HP Photosmart 2600 series printer (which does not have a duplex printing feature) from my workstation running Windows 10 Pro 21H1, I found the Print double-sided item in the Adobe Support Community to be helpful. Scroll about 2/3s of the way to the bottom of the page or search for the heading "Print double-sided using a single-sided printer".
Pages exit my HP Photosmart 2600 printed side up. There is no stacker or collator, so the last page printed ends up on top.
When I print a multi-page document from Acrobat, pages are printed in reverse order, so that the first page ends up on top when a document is printed simplex (not duplex). That's convenient, but please note that this behavior (printing last page first) can seem perverse when attempting to manually print a document duplex. In particular, the 'Reverse pages' checkbox in the Acrobat Print window perversely causes pages to be printed in the correct (ie, not the reverse) order. (I am guessing that printing pages in reverse order is a feature of the printer which is not under Adobe Acrobat's control.)
Here is my rendition of the instructions found in the Print double-sided item which work with my HP Photosmart 2600 printer:
- In Adobe Acrobat, choose File > Print.
- Click the 'More Options' toggle in the Adobe Acrobat Print window, check the 'Reverse pages' checkbox, in 'Odd or Even Pages:' dropdown, select 'Even pages only', then click Print.
- When even pages finish printing, the last even page of the document should be face up on top. If the total number of pages in the document being printed is odd, add a blank sheet to the top of the stack so that the final odd page has a sheet to print on - don't forget this or you will waste paper and ink. Then, put the stack of printed paper back into the supply (source) paper tray on top of any paper already there. Point the top of the pages toward the printer. Make sure that the edges of the paper stack are square.
- Choose File > Print again, click the 'More Options' toggle, in 'Odd or Even Pages:' select 'Odd pages only', then click Print. (Do not check the 'Reverse pages' checkbox.)
Before trying to manually print a large document on both sides, it is wise to consider T68203159's comment in the How Do I Print Double Sided item in the Adobe Support Community: "Ive tried that before and inevitably I get a jam, 2 pages get sucked up at the same time or something goes wrong and I have to do it over wasting time and ink and getting more frustrated." So, it is wise to split a large document up into smaller pieces (eg, print the first 10 pages duplex as described above, then the next 10 pages, etc), so if something goes wrong, you don't waste a lot of paper and ink.
In my Adobe Acrobat Print window, I see a 'Print on both sides of paper' checkbox which, as far as I can tell, is unhelpful.
