  • We have one user for which the "Open documents as new tabs in the same window" preference does not work properly.
  • Reader has been uninstalled/reinstalled multiple times.  The preference works properly at first, then after a short period, the docs start opening as separate windows, even thought the preference is still set to use tabs.
  • The user previously had Acrobat Pro installed, during which time the problem first surfaced. After uninstalling Pro and installing Reader, the problem persists.

Hi Farmerjim,

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble. As described the "Open documents as new tabs in the same window" preference does not work properly for a user and you have already tried uninstalling  and reinstalling the application with no luck .

Please try to reboot the computer once and see if that helps. If it still doesn't work, please try to reset the Acrobat Preferences to default as described in the help page: https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-default/td-p/4792... and see if that works.

If it still doesn't work, please create a new test user profile with full admin rights in Windows or enable the root account in Mac and try using the application there and check

If it still doesn't, please remove the application using the Acrobat Cleaner Tool - https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html reboot the computer once and reinstall the application from the link - https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

Regards

Amal
