Opening multiple files in a specific order

Community Beginner ,
Sep 18, 2019 Sep 18, 2019

I am wanting to open multiple files in the tab mode. The files don't seem to order with any discernable logic. Is there one?

Also, is there a way of setting an order for the files to appear, for example, filename, filesize, date modified etc.

I know I can reorder the tabs by dragging the files around, this can be time consuming considering the number of files I need to view.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This is how I used to do it - but double clicking is also not great and liable to give you repetitive strain injury 🙂

The best way to do it, is to open the first pdf and then - from within Acrobat - click on File / Open.

In the Open window, navigate to the correct folder and sort by the criteria you wish to open them (i.e. filename / Date modified / Type / Size / etc.). If you click on the first pdf you wish to open and then, using shift, click on the last pdf - and then hit the "open" button, A

Hey Rhonda,

As you have mentioned above, wanting to open multiple files in tab mode. Would you mind confirming the application you are working on? Are you referring to desktop application Adobe Reader DC or Acrobat DC?

I am wanting to open multiple files in the tab mode

Here, opening pdf in tab mode you mean to say you want to view multiple PDF in full screen mode?

Also, is there a way of setting an order for the files to appear, for example, filename, filesize, date modified etc.

Where exactly you want to set this order? When documents are opened within application or viewed under Home screen.

I know I can reorder the tabs by dragging the files around, this can be time consuming considering the number of files I need to view.

Multiple files will open in the same order its available in that specific location. It can't be pre-decided how to open it.

I tried to answer as many questions I could. Let me know if there's anything was missed or misunderstood.

Thanks,

Akanchha

Hello Rhonda,

You are right. If you select multiple files at once in the Windows Explorer and right-click "Open with Adobe Acrobat", the files will appear in tabs without any logical or useful order.

To display the files in the order you want, sort them first in the Windows Explorer, then double-click on them one by one. The files will appear in Acrobat tabs in the order in which you clicked them. Having to double-click the files one by one is still better than having to reorder the tabs.

Not true.  This does not open them in the order they are listed in the explorer window.

I saw your fix yesterday and "upvoted" it!  Thanks for providing a solution.  Rearranging 25 tabs in Adobe really sucks...

THIS is awesome!  I download multiple PDFs for multiple locations at the same time.  Even though I download and save them in order of location, Adobe always scrambles them when it opens them at the same time - which has made things a little messy at times.  THANK YOU for this solution.
