PC crashes while moving PDF only if Adobe reader is installed

Hi Community,

following problem occurs:
If Adobe Reader is installed and user moves PDF files from one folder to another in the explorer, Windows is freezing for a few minutes.

If Adobe Reader is NOT installed the problem doesn't occur.

Not using the Adobe reader is not an option.

What could be the reason for problems while moving files (if Adobe reader is installed)?
Reader already re-installed, repaired and it is the current version.

Many thanks in advance for helpful ideas regarding this problem.

Elke

Now I think I have an idea for olving the problem.
Moving files are started by right click on file (and choosing "copy").
Right click on file in explorer opens file preview in the right part of explorer. This starts adobe reader as background activity and this blocks moving PDF - file for a while.
It would beenough to get pdf preview at left clicking on PDF - files.

Is there any possibility to deactivate file preview in explorer at right click?

Hi @Elke27471524sxwf

Hope you are doing well.

As described above, the file moves from one folder to another while doing this:

1- Are these files already open in Acrobat Reader?

2- Are these files saved on a shared location or moving to a shared location?

1- Try saving the file locally if it is on a shared drive.

2- Make sure you have the application closed while doing this. Also, close the background instances from the task manager. Open Task manager>Processes>select Acrobat Reader and End Task.

Thanks,

Akanchha

Hi, the reader is closed while doing this.
Reader is only INSTALLED, thats enough to get the problem while moving.
The files are not open while moving them, also not open in browser.
the problem occurs on shared drives as well as on local computer (moving from not shared drive to not shared drive.)

Now at Windows 10 and with adobe Reader its works again.
I repaired Adobe Reader with Adobe Rader Help > Repair and restarted the Computer.
Renaming and moving PDF files now is working WITH activated File preview in Windows explorer. 🙂
