Problem with fonts not displaying correctly in Acrobat

New Here ,
Sep 17, 2024 Sep 17, 2024

Hello!

Hoping for some advice on a font display issue we are facing.

The pdf files we're using are supplied by the customer with all fonts embedded subset and everything displays fine. When the pdf file has been run through the developers software the font is coming out as below. All fonts are still embedded subset but as you can see the text is not displaying correctly.

I have tried turing off use local fonts and some other suggestions I've found on other similar posts but none of these seem to work. The software the developers are using have produced plenty of files for this customer without this issue occuring. Is there anything I can look for that might highlight what is causing this issue?

many thanks

Laura

Hi LauraSpooky,

Thank you for reaching out and reporting this.

Please try updating the application to the latest version. In Acrobat, go to Menu > Help  > Check for updates. For more information related to updates, refer to the following help document: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/release-note/release-notes-acrobat-reader.html

If the issue still occurs, please let us know if this happens with PDFs from a particular source. Share the Acrobat and OS version on the machine.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

Hello Meenakshi, I am having the same issue. The problem I am facing is in a

- mac mini m4

- macOs Sequoia 15.3.2 (24D81)

- Adobe Reader (Version 2025.001.20432):

Architecture: arm64

Processor: Apple M4

Build: 25.1.20432.0

AGM: 7.1.10

CoolType: 10.0.2

JP2K: 4.0.2.54782

The weirdest thing is that the same pdf file loads correctly on a non-apple-silicon machine runing the same macos, but Adobe Reader version is 2024.005.20421.

I am sharing the example file how it loads. I have more if you need to check

*By the way, I have other files that in fact load text, but the fonts look odd.

Please Help!

Downgrading to Adobe Acrobat Reader.app 2024 did the trick.

Apparently the 2025 version is still buggy.

It is like the software might be altering how the fonts are rendered. Have you tried opening the processed PDF on a different device or checking if the font encoding changed during the conversion? Sometimes re-embedding the font can help Snapchat.

Yes, my old MacBook has the 2024 reader and worked perfectly, that’s how I solved my issue, I just brought the 2024 version of the reader to my new Mac mini and it worked. So the problem is clearly the Adobe Reader 2025.
