Reader update uninstalled Acrobat

I just installed the latest update to Acrobat Reader and it uninstalled Acrobat from my system in the process without warning.  Totally unacceptable!  Fortunately I was able to uninstall Reader and reinstall Acrobat.  All I ever used Reader for was to view PDF files, so I don't need it since Acrobat will do that and much more.

Sorry to hear about the trouble caused and thanks for reporting this to us. 

As mentioned above, the Reader DC update was cause of this issue and uninstalled the Acrobat DC. Now, have you got the latest patch [21.007.20091] of Acrobat DC installed or is it still running on the previous version? I believe this happened to me as well.  I've had the full version of Adobe Acrobat for years which I used to create and edit PDFs, and just realized that it's completely missing from my system.  I'm presuming it's the Adobe Acrobat Reader DC update that uninstalled it.

Is there a way for me to get Acrobat back?  It's been so long that I'm not sure I could even find the original media it was installed from.

Is my original license information retained somewhere on the system?

Yeah, this may be because the latest Reader installs itself as Acrobat DC and not Acrobat Reader DC. We lost PDF file association on our upgraded clients because .PDF is set to be opened by Reader (AcroExch) and now it expects opening by Acrobat DC.

This just happened to me so remains an issue despite your assurances.  Adobe seem absolutley determined to undermine my previopus purchases.  I now have no trust in Adobe tbh - apalling treatment!

Could you please provide a bit more detail about the issue you're encountering?

Just to clarify, the 64-bit application is a unified version of Acrobat and Acrobat Reader. If you have Acrobat Reader 64-bit installed and then purchase an Acrobat subscription, the application will upgrade to a full-featured Acrobat 64-bit version.

This is exactly the problem. 

We have purchased a version of Acrobat with a perpetual license.  It still works to create PDFs.

There is a free version of Reader, available to all.

Previously, these two products could co-exist.

Adobe is now saying that we can't use the free product unless we uninstall the product we purchased and lose its functionality, or begin paying Adobe a subscription to regain the functionality we'd already paid for.

The complaint is anti-consumer behavior.

No, I don't want to pay you forever for a product I already owned.

I do not recognise the circumstances of your clarification - the free Adobe Acrobat Reader UNILATERALLY uninstalled Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro.  I have no Adobe subscription (and have no intention of taking one) and will use 9 Pro for just as long as I am able.
