I was registering on a job site and they want me to get IRS form W-9 and complete it and upload it. I dl'd it, filled it out and signed it. But I can't access the date filed to date it. Any ideas?

That is already a fillable form. It doesn't have a "signature" field. Theyy probably want you to physically sign and date it. The fields just make the rest easier for you and assures them they will be legible.

Try this. Fill out the fillable  fields (again, no need to use fill and sign, yet.). Then choose fill and sign. First use the "add text" tool to add the date, then use the "place signature" tool to add your signature. But be sure that this is allowed before you do it. They could have easily

You need to do it before signing it. It's likely the signature field is set to lock all other fields in the file.

Try right-clicking it and selecting Clear Signature. Then enter the date and sign it again.

I tried your advice but couldn't delete my signature. So I deleted the file

in Windows Explorer and dl'd a new one. But when I tried to date it I chose

'fill & sign' but when I went to 'fill & sign' again it only gave me 2

options which were my signature and my initials just like before. No option

to delete my signature. I looked for other options for the file like 'fill

& sign' but none seemed to be correct for it.

They could have easily added a fillable field for the date and then a signature field but they didn't so you have to wonder why.

Well your idea didn't work. What I ended up doing is to print the form and

scan it and output it to a .pdf file. Then I uploaded that to the site.

Thanks anyway.

There is no date field nor signature field on the form. To verify this turn on the field highlighting under Reader's Preferences.

If you are using the Fill & Sign tool, include the date as part of your signature.

I believe the IRS wants a pen and ink or wet signature on the form.

I don't know what Reader's Preferences is or where to find it but I opened

the Preferences menu in Reader and didn't find any highlighting tool. I am

able to create a signature when I do 'fill & sign' so that will have to do.

I printed the form, signed it, scanned it into a .pdf file and ul'd it. But

I've got other problems that came up. They say what doesn't kill you makes

you stronger. I should be a champion weightlifter by now!

My version of Adobe Acrobat Reader has the feature in the "Forms" category:

HighlightFromFields.jpg

And the W-9 form certification section:

W9HighlightFromFields.jpg

Note that unlike the Social Security Number and Employer Identification Number that have a blue background there is no blue background for the signature and date areas in the Certification section.

I just gave up and printed the form, signed it, scanned it into a .pdf

file, and ul'd it.
