Could you confirm, when exactly do you get this Application Error message?

Also, for testing purpose you may try the following steps-

• Launch Acrobat Reader>Edit>Preferences>Security (Enhanced)> Uncheck "Enable Protected Mode at Startup">OK
• Restart Acrobat

**For security reasons It is not recommended to keep the protected mode turned off, please turn it back on once the testing it done.

If the issue is fixed by turning off protected mode, should go through the this help document and follow the steps- Protected Mode troubleshooting | Adobe Reader

Let us know if it works after turning the protected mode off.
