Trying to sign a document

None of the instructions work. The pen icon at the top of the page is grey, and no box to fill appears with the sign link on the right side. Very frustrating. Need some directions for Mac, 10.10, Acrobat Reader PDF

Please confirm the exact versions of the application and operating system that you are using.

Also, please share the a screenshot of what appears when you are trying to the sign the document and if this is happening with all the files or a particular file.
