Unable to open some pdfs created in LiveCycle Designer

Since the latest update I am unable to open some of our livecycle pdf forms - error: There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired.

I have tried with both Adobe Reader and Acrobat. The forms open fine with the previous version of Acrobat and Reader but any computer in our company that installed the latest update can no longer open them.

Hi Malyndad,

Could you let us know the version of Reader and Acrobat installed on the machine? You may refer to the steps given in the following link on how to check the version: Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC

And, the operating system installed on the machine?

Would it be possible if you can share one of the livecycle forms with us? I have sent you a private message for the same, please check the inbox for the same.

Thanks,

Shivam

Our forms can be found here: http://www.casakids.net/advocates/advocate-reporting-forms

Some of the forms from this site work with the updated versions of Acrobat and Reader, but others do not. The form at the top is the one that is most important for us which is not working with the newest reader/acrobat update, REPORT FORM to the Court (for CASA and Pro Bono cases only- paid attorney/GAL are not to use this form).

I have tested the form on various computers with different versions of the reader and Acrobat the ones that have not been updated with the Nov 14th update open it w/o issue but once I install the update they do not work.  My current version that I have on my Windows 10 machine is Acrobat Pro DC 2015 Release (Classic) | Version 2015.006.30392 - prior to Nov. 15 I was able to open this from w/o issue.

Any updates to this issue?  I see other issues caused by the latest update that are being actively discussed and followed up on but not this one.  Is the private build mentioned in this topic: Blank PDF then hang on exit  applicable to our issue?

I did find a solution of sorts.  Open the form in LiveCycle ES4 and save, once this was done the the forms can be opened with the newest version of Adobe Acrobat and Reader.  Other than that I have not found a better solution.

I'm having the same issue as well.

The PDF was created on 3/28/2006 with Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2 according the the Properties of the file.

It works on Adobe Reader DC 2017.012.20098

It does not work on Adobe Reader DC 2018.009.20044

It does work on Adobe Pro X 10.1.16

The systems have Windows 8.1 Enterprise and Windows 10 2016 LTSB

I can supply the pdf if needed,

Thanks.

Hi all,

Adobe Acrobat and Reader official update containing the fix for this issue is now available. This update will be automatically pushed to all existing installations of Acrobat and Reader. If you want, you may also manually trigger the update by opening the application and going to Help > Check for Updates.

More information about this release is here: Acrobat Help | Release notes | Acrobat DC and Acrobat Reader DC | Update

Please try it out and let us know your feedback.

Thanks for your patience and support!

This update appears to fix the problem but there appears to be no fix for older versions of Acrobat.  I checked Acrobat Reader with the update and verified that it will open the PDFs that were causing problems.

I use Acrobat Pro DC 2015 Release (Classic) Version 2015.006.30392 and am not showing any updates for this version, which means that any of our users that have an older version of Acrobat will still have this problem.
