If you do want to change it you can do so here:

chrome://settings/content/pdfDocuments

Thank you for responding.  When there is a pdf attachment to an email and I choose to open it, I am forced to save it before I can open it to just read it or just print it.  I do not know if this is due to some setting with my gmail, my laptop or my Adobe Acrobat DC?

Without a download you can't view or print a file from the nett.

All PDF files have to be downloaded before they can be opened. Sometimes this is done silently to a temporary file in the browser's cache folders, but it must happen. If you mean you are prompted to save the file then that has to do with the settings of the browser you're using. You didn't provide enough information for use to be able to help you beyond that, though.

Yes, you are correct.  My PDF files have always been downloaded into a temporary file up until a month ago.  I don't know if I somehow somewhere I made a change to a setting.  I have read online that it could be my browser but I cannot figure out where on Google Chrome I would make this change.

I would recommend you keep it that way because the built-in PDF viewer of Chrome is not the best. You're better off downloading them and then opening directly in Adobe Acrobat or Reader.
