Hello Adobe team,

I installed Acrobat Reader DC 2022.001.20117 version on my Windows 10.

When I opened the attached pdf file(test.pdf) which generated by HP DSS application,

The acrobat reader didn't open the file and show the message like Insufficient data for an image.JPG.

But, other pdf reader programs such as Foxit and Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome open the file without any error.

Even Acrobat Reader 2018.011.20035 also open the file without the error.

So I guess the issue is caused by Acrobat Reader DC 2022.001.20117 version.

Could you check this issue ?

if this issue is the version, please let me know if you have a plan to fix it or not.

All the best,

Seungwan

I have done a detailed analysis of this file.

The image causing the message is

resource name Im0 Filter JPXDecode

DeviceRGB BPC8  H1240 x W1754 x 3 = 6,524,880 bytes
stream decodes to 6,524,880 bytes in Acrobat plug-in

I don't expect you to follow this, but this basically shows there IS EXACTLY ENOUGH data for the image. The message is wrong. Furthermore, I tested in Acrobat 9, Acrobat X and an older version of Acrobat DC. None of these gave the error. I conclude this a new bug in Acrobat Reader, an

It's not a version issue, it's a compression issue.

I have replaced JPEG2000 compression by ZIP compression using the PDF Optimizer in Acrobat Pro, the file has become heavier but it opens without any warning (attached).

Thanks for your deep reviews.

Do you mean the pdf file(test.pdf) has compression issue ?

But the original file(test.pdf) generated by HP DSS application open in other pdf reader programs without any warning or error. And the previous Acrobat reader open without the same reason.

Why does the previous Acrobat reader open the file without any warning ?

The new version of Acrobat reader has different compression method from the previous Acrobat Reader ?

When I open your file (with Acrobat Pro DC) I get the same warning as you, but after a few seconds the pages are displayed normally.
Have you tried it?

I tried to reopen the file, but the issue kept happening.

So I applied one of the solutions from https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/insufficient-data-image.html  .

And then this issue went away.

PS the bug also occurs in Acrobat Pro 2022.001.20017, not just in Reader.
