Weird characters and text on top of others

New Here ,
Jan 07, 2020 Jan 07, 2020

In some PDF files people send, weird charatcters like small figures and chinese like text appear instead of original text making the document impossible to read. The issue is not on the original file since I can read it clearly on my phone or other computers, it only happens in this Windows 10 laptop. I checked for updates ion the Acrobat reader and ran the repair installtion but the I still have the problem.

Any help?

Hi Gmsolar,

We are sorry for the trouble. As described above, weird characters like small figures and Chinese like text appear instead of original text making the document impossible to read.

As the issue is with some files that you got from different users, it seems to be an issue with the fonts embedding.

Please try the following preference settings and see if that helps.

Go to Edit > Preferences > Page Display > Select 'Use local fonts' under rendering > Click OK and restart the application and check.

Let us know how it goes

Regards

Amal

What was the response to this? Same problem here and Use Local Fonts is checked.

Hi there

Thank you for sharing the PDF, I have checked the PDF with Adobe Acrobat DC and found that the file has font problems as the font is not embedded and the Type 2 CID font: CIDtoGIDmap invalid or missing.

A font can be embedded only if it contains a setting by the font vendor that permits it to be embedded. Embedding prevents font substitution when readers view or print the file, and ensures that readers see the text in its original font.

For more information about embedding fonts please check the help page: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/pdf-fonts.html

Hope it will help

Amal
