I'm having the same problem with Acrobat 8.1.4 Pro on a Vista Home Premium 32 bit PC. Been working fine for years, and the only changes recently were OS security updates and some unrelated apps. But lately, when double clicking on a PDF file or the app itself, the main Acrobat window closes after 8 seconds. It may linger while pull-down menus are active or sub-windows are open, but then abruptly closes before I can do much.

I've tried Help/Repair Acrobat Installation. Uninstalled and reinstalled from the (original v8.0) CD. Ditto using the AcroPro80_efg.exe trial setup. Uninstalled Reader X, followed by another uninstall/reinstall from CD. I checked the given link for the Acrobat Cleaner Tool, but it's only for version 9 and later.

The 8 seconds is consistent and spooky. Any ideas out there?

Thanks!

Gary

Hi jamess60185041,

Could you please let me know the OS version on your system?

Does this happen with all the pdf files you try to open or with particular pdf files?

If the OS version you have is windows, you can try running this cleaner tool : Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

Restart your system and then reinstall it from this link : Download Pro or Standard versions of Acrobat DC, XI, or X

Let us know if this helps.

I am running Windows 8.1. I have downloaded the cleaner tool and run it. I have reinstalled Acrobat X Pro from the link you provided and I still have exactly the same problem. It opens fine from any pdf file I select, but then shuts down and exits after a few seconds. It will also open fine without a pdf file from the Acrobat desktop icon, but closes and exits after a few seconds.

Thanks,

Jim

Hi James,

If Acrobat is closing on launch then it most likely related to licensing issue.

Please try the following steps:

1)Go to the Adobe PCD folder under C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe PCD and provide administrative privilleges.

2) Do the same with SL Cache under C:\Program Files \Common Files\Adobe\SLCache

3) Go to the Sl Store under C:\ProgramData\Adobe and give administrative privilleges there too.

Kindly use the url :-  http://www.wikihow.com/Change-File-Permissions-on-Windows-7 on how to set administrative privilleges.

4) Unhide all the hidden files and folder.

5) Delete all the files under the above mentioned folders

6) Launch Acrobat again and enter the serial.

Also we would require to analyse the amt3 log located in %temp% folder.
