missing fill and sign option

I have acrobat 9 pro on a windows 8 system. As of last week I was able to fill and sign any pdf. Not sure why, but this option is no longer available to me. I have tried a number of the solutions listed and none of them have worked or were not available. What happened to the fill and sign option and how do I fix it?

Acrobat 9 is not compatible with Windows 8 (it was barely compatible with Windows 7), so problems with it are to be expected under that OS.
