Question

Print to PDF keeps disappearing

We are using Acrobat Standard DC in a Windows 7 environment (64 bit).  A very small percentage of our users repeatedly loses their PDF printer in the devices and printers area so they aren't able to print from other software to PDF.  We run a repair on the Acrobat program and the printer comes back, but we shouldn't have to keep doing that.  Is there a permanent fix for this?

Hello,

Eight YEARS Later.....May 16,  2024.

Windows 11, Adobe Acrobat Pro version 2024.002.20736 64-bit

Same exact problem......Adobe PDF print driver disappears from Printers & Devices.  Last time it did this was about 3 weeks ago, since then I've went through probably 5 or 6 updates from Windows, this morning.........gone again, no update recently.

Any new fixes besides performing the Repair?  This will be the 6th or 8th time I've had to do this in the last 3 months.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Just wondering if there are any updates on this - I have been experiencing this for the past couple of months now and it is very frustrating.  I have not yet been able to trace any reasonable explanation as to why the PDF printer disappears and it is not even linked with a reboot, or Group Policy update as the PC concerned does not get turned off, or even logged out for weeks at a time, but yet the printer will suddenly just be gone and I have to go through the repair process to get it back.

This only started happening after a Creative Cloud update some months ago (sorry but not certain of exact timing or update(s)).  However one very interesting thing I notice when I do a "Repair Installation" is that when the installer window first comes up, all the title and text is in Arabic and I've never every had any arabic language settings on this system...

Hi idsdi ,

Could you please tell what Operating System do you have?

What version of Acrobat DC do you have?

Try to check if there is any update available for Acrobat DC,Launch Acrobat, click on Help menu>Check for updates. If there is an update available, download and install it and restart Acrobat.

If that doesn't work , try to remove Acrobat DC with Cleaner tool (for Windows)from here: Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs ,restart the Computer and then install Acrobat DC from here :Download Pro or Standard versions of Acrobat DC, XI, or X

Let us know about the results.

Thank You!

Hi Shivam,

As with the other reports on this thread, I am using Windows 7, 64bit and the Acrobat DC version is 2015 Release (Continuous) | Version 2015.016.20041

I also tried to perform and update and it gives an error saying "Error 1328.  error applying patch to file C:\Config.Msi\PTA7DD.tmp...."

I am not really thrilled by the concept of having to clean uninstall and reinstall, but it appears I may not have much option?

Hi amyb56477433,

Normally this should not happen.

To know the cause we may work with below assumption:

There "may" be a domain policy which is trying to delete the printer, to narrow down the issue you may restart the machine couple of times within a span of 2 hours or you can check with your IT how often your group policy refreshes, then you can check in that interval if the printer disappears.

Thanks!

There are some Group Policies in place that map printers, but none I can see that remove them. I will re-create the printer and force an update to see if that affects it.

We are having the same issue. Multiple users, but not all. Acrobat Standard DC, using Windows 7 x64. It started on 5/12/16. Repairing or manually creating the PDF printer temporarily resolves the issue, but the printer disappears again.

Edited to add application/OS info.
