"Reduced Size PDF ..."

Upgraded to El Capitan and Quark 2015, and now if I have a large PDF – too large for emailing – after doing it once successfully, I can no longer go to File > Save As > Reduced Size PDF ... That is, I can "go there" but nothing happens! I change the file name and click Save, and nothing!

Open the PDF file in Acrobat Pro and just do a print (Ctrl+P) and choose the printer as Adobe PDF. The large pdf file will be reduce. If the problem is still then try to open the pdf file in Adobe Indesign to this goto scripts and choose place multiples pdf and uncheck the page facing and export to adobe pdf interactive and do the setting upto your satisfaction (i.e., resolution to maximum, high, medium, low, minimum) this will reduce your pdf file size for sure. Hope it will help you.

“Refrying a PDF” (printing to PostScript and distilling to get a new PDF) is strongly not recommended by us at Adobe. The PostScript generated by Acrobat (or any Adobe application) is optimized strictly for printing and not for generation of PDF. Such “refried PDF” loses live transparency, color management, and often quality and searchability as well as correct export to other formats. Virtually all fixups for PDF issues are already in Acrobat via various functions including Preflight.

Not to mention form fields, links, comments, bookmarks, named destinations, layers, scripts, and other "meta" objects...

As you found out the hard way, Acrobat X Pro is not compatible with Mac OS X El Capitan. Unfortunately, there are only two options: downgrade to a supported Mac OS X version again, or upgrade Acrobat. The last supported version was Mac OS X 10.9
