Right clicking and choosing convert to PDF

When I right click a file and choose "convert to PDF", a window opens showing progress.  The progress barely gets started and the window closes.  No error message, no PDF file.  Sometimes the window flashes on the screen too fast to read.  Windows 10 pro 64 bit, Acrobat XI Standard.  This happens with Word, Excel, and text files.  I can print to PDF from Word, and it works fine.  Any Ideas ?

Here are the only log entries that I could find.  the entries are identical going back several months.  These are from the "messages.log" file.

Adobe PostScript software version: 3018.101

CID support library initialization completed.

That looks like the initialization log for Acrobat. When a document is converted to a PDF a file with a file name of the document being converted with an extension of "log". This is same information that is displayed when one looks at the details as the file is being converted.

The log can look something like, when there are no errors:

%%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%

%%[Page: 1]%%

%%[LastPage]%%

Any error will show the page number and some vague  statement about the error.

I know this is an old thread but I encountered the same issue and found a resolution.

Here is what solved it for me: After ensuring the Adobe PDF Converter was manually installed I had to go to the printer properties and change the name from "Adobe PDF Converter" to "Adobe PDF".

Instantly started working after that. It appears the converter tries to reference/search for "Adobe PDF" in the printers list any any other text after PDF breaks the reference.

Hi Steven,

As per the logs there seems to be no issue with the installation. Are you facing this issue for all Word and Excel files?

Basma

Hi stevenm96512773

Try once "Repair Installation" under Help menu in Application.

Could you please confirm the dot version of Adobe Acrobat XI Standard installed on your system. Go to Help menu and select About Acrobat XI Standard to check the dot version of the application.

Did you try to create PDF by opening file in respective application and using Acrobat ribbon? Check if you experience the same issue.

Regards,

Meenakshi

You have not provided much to goon.

We know you are using Windows 10 64 bit and Acrobat XI standard and are trying to convert a Word file. Just as Acrobat can only work with certain versions of Windows, so does MS Office and its various component programs. What version of MS Office are you using?

I would also make sure my Operating Systems and programs are all up to date with patches.

As Acrobat converts any file to a PDF, there is a log created of the processing and any errors. By default this log is deleted upon completion. You can set an option in Distiller, Acrobat Printer, and PDF Converter to retain these logs on error or to just keep them.

OK.  Fair enough. I am using Office 2013 pro plus.  I am pretty good about keeping up to date with patches and updates so all good there.  I will change the setting to keep the logs and get back to you with the log.
