I've just had to do a clean install of Mac 10.11.3 El Capitan. I've uninstalled + then reinstalled Acrobat 2015 my perpetual Acrobat DC after downloading Acrobat_2015_Web_WWMUI. My current 2015 release classic v is 2015.0006.30119.
I have updater set to automatically install updates. MacUpdate Desktop app shows that there is a v 15.1010.20056 Acrobat Pro DC Continuous Track update available. That update's (AcrobatDCUpd1501020056.dmg) package grays out when try to select the copy of Adobe Acrobat DC to update. I have an Adobe Acrobat 2015 folder in apps. It has 3 files: distiller, uninstaller + Adobe Acrobat. I don't understand why the package won't allow for the app selection.
Thank you in advance for your assistance .

Classic is the perpetual license. Continuous is the subscription license. You cannot mix these, they are separate products. The continuous version has new features being added regularly, as part of the subscription, but (barring bug fixes) the classic version is frozen as originally sold.

Do you have Adobe Reader DC installed or Acrobat DC Continuous on the machine as well?

I don't have Reader installed. When I bought the $199 Acrobat upgrade from Adobe, I was told I was purchasing a "perpetual" version. I was not told that there would be no minor updates, only that it would not include the major update to the next year's name change version.

There's nothing different to any earlier release. You get the release, you can run it as long as you want ("perpetual") or upgrade for new features. It's certainly unfortunate if people have misunderstood the word, which is just in contrast to "subscription". It's many years if ever since Adobe added features mid release.
It gets security updates until end of support (5 years typically) and platform updates (eg new system, Office, browser) until the next chargeable upgrade. Near as I can figure out. But Adobe haven't got this over well, ever to some of their support staff.
