I'm unable to save any PDFs after changes. I get a "The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder." message every time. I have a macbook pro with macOS Big Sur 11.4 and Acrobat Pro DC with automtic updates. What do I do? thanks

After trying many different things, it turns out what worked was turning off Bitdefender.

If the files are on the Desktop or on an external drive, it might be a permission issue. This is not Adobe's fault, rather it's Apples. Please try the following (please excuse that I'm showing the focus application being Bridge, this issue crops up for Bridge users all the time).

Go to your System Preferences and select Security and Privacy (found in the top section). Now click on the Privacy setting (last tab). Now click on the lock on the bottom left and provide your Administrator code. Now select the Full Disk Access option and click on the "+" symbol. This will bring up the standard Mac Open window and let you add any application you want or need to have full access. Look for Bridge, select it, it will now appear in that window and make sure it's checked. Next go to the Files and Folders option and do the same thing as above (although there's nothing to check, just add. Close everything down and see if that makes it all work.

Please let me know

[Note: these images are from an older OS, the process is the same.]

Hi Alegna,

There is one other area where permissions can come into play but this is on a Mac. I do not know if these issues show up on a PC and if they do I have no clue as to how to deal with them.

But for the Mac, click on the folder that contains the images in the Finder and press Command-i. This will bring up a long window on the left side of the screen for "Get Info."

On the very bottom you will see this section:

The first thing you need to do is to unlock the lock on the bottom right with your administrator's password.

Next you need to see if any of the "Privileges" are not set correctly. If you're not sure, go to a folder that is operating correctly and see what that's set for. If one of them is not correct, press on the dropdown menu of that Privilege and select the correct option. (Note: all of the above settings are correct.)

(Note, I'm just showing you what it should look like if you press on one of the options).

Lastly, if you find that there are a number of image folders that are all botched up, you can fix them all very quickly by using the gear icon in the very bottom by going to the folder that contains all of these other folders, fixing that main folder and then taking advantage of the dropdown shown below.

BUT BEWARE: this can be a very dangerous folder if you happen to do this to a folder with any applications or such things in that folder, you are likely to make those things inoperable. (don't ask me how I know). As long as you are working on folders of files you should be good, but applications, plugins, etc. DON'T!!!!!

Hopefully this will work, good luck.
