Combining Word document and pdf format question

I am combining a Word document with an existing pdf.  The Word document matches the existing pdf's format (e.g., margins, font size), but in the conversion process the Word document is being compressed and the resulting pages no longer match the existing pdf pages.  Is there a way to stop this compression?  Thanks!!!
