Green DYNAMIC check mark to pdf signature

Community Beginner ,

How to show green dynamic check mark on digitally signed PDF?
I know there is usual answer to this question is to 'Add to Trusted Certificates'. But this does not give green dynamic check mark to the signature. The signature gets verified, but no check mark at all.
There are some pdf files which gets orange question mark before adding it into trusted certificates and becomes green check mark when added to trusted certificates. This dynamic behavior of the signature I am expecting.

I am attaching both the sample pdfs here where, dynamic signature which shows green check mark is given and in another, my own sample signed pdf where even after adding it into trusted certificates, NO green check mark shows.

Hi DocMan_8247,

Thank you for reaching out.

We did check both files and were able to validate both signatures. However, as you mentioned, the check mark appears only on one. However, if you check the right-hand panel, you can see the signature is validated. For more information on validating the signature, refer to the following help document: https://adobe.ly/4evfeY4

The difference might appear due to how the document was signed. Could you please confirm how the first document that shows the green check mark was signed? Did the signer use Adobe or alternate applications to sign the document?

We will also check with the team for more information on this behavior.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

Thank you Meenakshi for the reply.

The first document is found on public internet. (to be more specific, it's sample document for freetsa timestamped pdf). The similer pdf can be found as the India's Aadhar PDF ducument. So, I can't comment how the pdf is signed.

Generally, very few people refers the checkmarks shown in sidebar of the Acrobat reader. Most of them will refer only at the signature itself. Further, many of them might be using other pdf reader which may not have that sidebar.

There must be something which I am missing that will trigger intended dynamic behaviour of the signature. Is there anything in Acrobat's KBs (pdf standard, perticularly) where this point is documented?

Did you manage to find the reason or solution for the missing green check mark in the signature field? For completely valid signature pdf.

Hi unknown_0293,

Thank you for reaching out.

You can check the validity of the signature on the right-hand panel in Acrobat or Reader. In-document visualizations of signature validity are no longer available in the application. Only for compatibility, old documents with their own validity appearances continue to be displayed using those custom appearances.

I hope this information helps you.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

The green, in-document checkmark as indication of signature validity has been deprecated since 2008 (with the release of Adobe Acrobat 9) and forbidden since 2017 (in ISO 32000-2), see this stack overflow article for details.

Unfortunately Acrobat has not yet caught up with the specification and still shows such in-document signature state indicators for legacy signature appearances. This surely will be fixed any decade now.
