Adding effects and styles now completely changes the image

I like to generate my own images, then run them through Firefly effects and styles to tweak, try different looks, unify layers etc. I used to be able to do this and control how much the effects and styles would alter the image. Now it seems that adding any effects or styles creates major changes in the image (composition, image elements etc) and I can't control it, no matter which options I tweak in the settings. Is it me, or is it Firefly??

Hey @bluebliss

The team is working on things and getting ready for Adobe Max. This might be the cause for what's happening. Give a day or 2 and let the team know if this persists.

Cheers

Nate

Thanks for replying! but sadly, when I said "Now" in my post above, what I really meant was "for the last couple months." But ok, I can imagine that the team has been experimenting with Firefly's effects and styles for that long. The settings now make it impossible to have any degree of control other than through text prompts. Unless I'm not understanding how to work with these changes. I'll wait with bated breath and hope for a better tomorrow..........

Hey BlueBliss, just checking in! Are you still having this issue in Firefly?

Let us know.

I tested it again just now, using my own photo. I'm attaching the results in a jpeg. No, it's not any different or better. If I just want to add some styling, more or less, to a reference image, I used to be able to do that. Now, adding any style or effect totally changes the image. I set the ref image strength to max and the styles strength to min, tried photo/art, art, and photo types... nothing helped. Can you help?

Thanks for the screenshot! I had a little bit of luck by generating my own source image, uploading it as a composition reference, and then choosing different effects. The only prompt I gave firefly was "apply effect to composition reference" and it did a much better job of retaining the shape/composition, rather than creating new shapes. Some effects did generate new shapes regardless of the prompt.

Were you inputting the same prompt every time? The "stone building looming against a stormy sky"?

Try uploading your composition reference, choosing your art style, then replace your descriptive prompt with the instruction "apply effect to composition reference." See what that gets you.

I would also recommend trying different Firefly models to see what it gives you. Firefly 4 might give you different results than Firefly 3.

See screenshot for more details.

I hope this helps!

Caroline

Thanks for your advice, I tried that and lots of other permutations of that, it's just not working well for what I want it to do, which is to add a style or effect to my image. I used to be able to do that, and combine different effects in a fairly controllable way. Sadly, I have to turn to other generators for what I want to do.
